Re: 1958 charging problem

well one problem with a dynamo is that unless you are running at a reasonably high speed ,not just stop and start round town, they don't cope well with all electrics head lights, wipers, heating, and radio on and only just maintain full battery,if dynamo is slightly down in output,or fan belt a bit sl...

Re: 1958 charging problem

you can check the charge ,approximate, start it facing a wall and switch head lights on rev it and you should see the lights go brighter, switch everything on do the same and you should see the same result ,if not then charge too low .Take the car to any battery supplier and get them to test the batt...

Re: 1958 charging problem

the type of connection makes no difference it's either charging or not. the only way to tell is with a meter to check the output. What makes you think its not charging properly, more info needed.

Re: Master Brake Cylinder

no need to strip, do a search, simply bend torsion bar down with lever and it comes out,put bolts in other way round for future removal,as long as they don't touch the torsion bar.

Re: starting

You have check the float ,but have you checked the mixture setting when hot with the lift pin (assuming yours has one) under the carb body. It could be too rich and with the choke out on cold start simply over enriches the mixture ,choke in and throttle fully open is the classic way to clear mixture...

Re: Removing sorn

you simply go on line and tax the vehicle using the number from the vehicle log book/ reg document since you no longer will have a reminder they don't send one after first sorn declaration, they check mot/exemption and insurance and sorn is removed.,until you ,again on line ,place it back as off road.

Re: Save a Moggy? Can a newcomer do it

Why would you want to put a weld on top of another weld if the first weld is ok? simply when welding thicker metal (Not talking about thin car bodies, but heavier steel as in some car chassis section) the correct procedure is to grind each edge to an angle to form a V section when both butted up ,the...

Re: Save a Moggy? Can a newcomer do it

any one buying a mig always get the dual gas /no gas There is nothing wrong with no gas except the shielding gas tends to hide the weld but you can not weld with gas outside, the slightest breeze blows the gas off the weld and prevents quality welding. You can erect shield round the area but I person...

Re: Front brake shoe steady springs.

Over the years I have had two minors with the same problem Cured each time by replacing the adjuster cams,I think that they do wear and after adjustment and on application on the brakes a few times the adjustment slips. I confirmed the fault by rechecking adjustment after a few days of deliberate ha...

Re: Sorry I haven't a clue

well done for accepting the challenge It will be OK ,in the end,< everything can be repaired or replaced . When doing your assessment make sure you take the sill covers off,the ones below the doors, even if they are welded on,which they shouldn't be, It,s one of the major rot areas. Good luck.
