Re: Innocenti/De Tomaso 1275 Engine specs.

Have you tried this, and would you advise it? I have a 1275cc MG Midget engine, which as far as I know has the stock internals.

Re: Innocenti/De Tomaso 1275 Engine specs.

Thanks for the info, Phil. Certainly sounds like they hit upon a good use of various BL parts bin components...

How does one actually advance the camshaft timing, without it having a Vernier adjustment like some aftermarket setups?

Innocenti/De Tomaso 1275 Engine specs.

Does anyone happen to know how they managed to get around 75 bhp from the De Tomaso Innocenti Mini 120's 1275cc A-series engine? I gather they had an SU HS6 carb fitted, for starters, and perhaps it was based on the Cooper 'S', judging by the 11-stud cylinder head... I found these extracts from onli...

Re: LED bulbs anyone?

I'm assuming the LEDs are on the LHS, since these seem brighter, in which case, they certainly appear to be quite an improvement. Do you also have parking sensors on the rear bumper?

Quite possibly, particularly if the customer was military/police/RAF/fire brigade/post office, etc.

Re: Sally's NMP plate

I for one, am quite glad mine wasn't refitted following replacement of the tie panel (along with nearside chassis leg), because they tend to trap moisture underneath and cause a rust spot.

Re: Engine value seal

I think you mean the valve stem oil seals, in which case, yes, you can remove the spark plugs and insert a length (say, a foot or so) of thin rope into the engine cylinder via the spark plug hole, and turn the engine on the crank handle until the piston is near the top, whereupon the rope should squ...

Yes, no need to undo the gearbox crossmember, simply unbolt the 8 (IIRC) remote housing bolts.

Re: Carburettor options

Another option would be a single 1.5" HS/HS4 SU, as used on many 1970s (and early 1980s) BL A-series engined stuff, such as Mini, Marina, Alllegro, etc. These were the defacto carb fitment for some years prior to the HIF carbs coming along. I tried one many years ago on my standard 1098cc, and it ga...

IMHO. What it does not look like is "re-conditioned"

Maybe the actual gearbox itself was, but the remote extension wasn't - or the owner used one off his original gearbox or a spare of dubious origin...

Which 1275 engine do you have? It would appear that you have the extra holes in the cylinder head for bolts at each end of the rocker cover, as per Mini Cooper 'S' and Austin 1300GT...

Re: 1275 H-Beam Con Rods

Yes, I have a 1275cc Midget 'CE' engine, with IIRC, Cooper 'S' spec con rods (it was donkeys years ago that I rebuilt the engine). They still seem to be holding together pretty well, though I rarely 'cane' the engine nowadays!

Good to know you can buy brand new rods if required though...

1275 H-Beam Con Rods

Has anyone tried a set of these rather racy-looking H-beam con-rods in their 1275? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EN24-Connecting-Rods-for-Austin-Mini-Cooper-S-A-series-MG-Midget-1275-Conrods/402174103394?hash=item5da371cf62:g:qFQAAOSwMkJdVn9M I'm presuming they're probably lighter than the standard one...

Re: Marina Disc Brakes

Yes, they are indeed Ford Escort/Sierra discs, on alloy hubs. Due to a problem with the bearings working loose (which happened on mine, a few years after getting it fitted), most Minor suppliers nowadays provide steel hubs with this kit.
