The Yank one with the 'bugeye'; (I fear the Northern Irish lady in t'other one is also somewhat confused about how it all works).

Yes, 'butterfly' is correct. You may find this video explanation helpful in understanding how it's all supposed to work:- https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=morris+minor+carburettor+choke&sca_esv=596546401&sxsrf=AM9HkKmNA2BaR2QMqDJqBPjSKGGd5bXyow%3A1704808759570&ei=N1GdZee1Ipu-hbIP-aWxkAU...

"...no movement on this thing in the carb until I’d got the knob out approximately 3/8”..."
That's normal for a correctly set up carburettor; it provides the fast tickover facility that I told you about much earlier in this saga.

P.S. The Sparkrite SX4000 is rubbish. John ;-) Is it? Pray tell.... -) The sixth post down should tell you all you need to know. It also explains why the one I bought proved to be a waste of money too, but if you still want to give it a go you can have mine for postage cost alone :-? https://autosh...

Best film to watch this Christmas?
Certainly, I think so. I discovered the Badger Lodge Garage YouTube stuff early this year and can thoroughly recommend it to anyone, such as the denizens of this board, with an interest in cheap(ish) old cars in general and Morris Minors in particular. I really enjoy the guy's dry yet knowledgeable ...

"So I tried bleeding just the wheel where the cylinders had been replaced, and lo and behold, bubbles. LOTS of bubbles. In fact, a never-ending stream of bubbles!" Sounds to me like you've probably got air finding its way in past the bleed-screw threads. Are you loosening the nipple by jus...

Re: Hello!
You could always ask Mathewsons where they collected it from then go and knock on a few doors in the neighbourhood to see what recollections the locals have of the car and its owner/restorer. Just a thought.

The fact that it's never had an MoT test might well be explained by this possibility.

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start
In the sort of starting situations that you describe, are you using the fast-tickover choke position or just pushing the choke fully home? Any time you do overuse the choke and end up with a flooded, non-starting engine, the usual remedy is to push the choke right in, press the accelerator to the fl...
