'Running in' was a recognised process you went through with a new car. Never having had a new car I'm not sure if the same recommendation applies? I believe a lot of new vehicles don't even get the oil changed until 20k!!
Personally I would certainly change oil/filter as well as considerate use.

Re: Slow petrol filling?
My 2 door filler has a tube inside the the main outside filler to let displaced air/fumes up the space between the two, hopefully avoiding a gush back.
Has yours got a double tube?

Well found! I have had similar problems with the positive cable on my every day Astra and last week on the wife's MINI Cooper - couldn't make it up!

Re: Bearing shell condition
As Les say's, push the shell from the non tang end it should come out fine.
I changed main and big end shells on my sidevalve with the engine in situ like this which worked well.

I fitted a Kenlowe from my Triumph between the grill and rad making brackets as required.
Works well (when requested by thermostat) but is a very tight fit - I had to reduce the length of bonnet catch to clear blades.

Re: Trying to fix splits in my 1963 Morris Traveller Bonnet.
From the many photos I've seen it would appear the bonnet catch is adjusted too tightly causing the cracks in the first place!
This can be confirmed by looking at the gap between the bonnet edge and the grill chrome, it should be parallel but is often much tighter in the centre.

My Dad's cousin was a signwriter and some of his brushes looked naff but what he could do with them was amazing. Some had 2 - 3inch long bristles.

Re: Quarter light rubbers and latches
I had the broken catch problem with my steel frames - the bracket's had rusted off. Luckily I found some nos quarter lights but my original plan was to source stainless frames (possibly with broken off brackets) remove the glass to enable repairs to be carried out and then 'set' the glass back in wi...

I remember the tric tank where I worked, about 8ft long 4ft wide and 6ft deep - boy did I clean some parts in there! It's very ozone depleting hence it's no longer used.
I have used petrol for years but of late bought a gallon of paraffin and I'm finding it better than petrol.

Had trouble with my horn once , would work sometimes depending on position of steering wheel, problem was due to the brass slip ring - it had worn right through!

Re: Highway code question
Had a sort of 'similar' situation near us, car parked on the bend at T junction for 3/4 weeks. Did some research and found it not mot'd or taxed. Police weren't interested and suggested I contact DVSA and gave me a phone number. Rang it a few times, hung on each time - no-one ever answered. Car move...

Re: new petrol - an idle thought
I'm into stationary engines and after a run always run the float chambers dry and drain and dry the tanks. Petrol is stored in unvented container's. I recently emptied the 3 year old petrol into my modern (24 year old Astra) which used it without any noticeable effects. This was also in an unvented ...

Re: Car Covers
I used to use Halfords car covers (not for the Morris) and would get a couple of years out of them. The last one I had, about 5 years ago was 'different' to previous covers. Anyway, within a short space of time it had buggered up the paint on the boot lid on my mk3 Cavalier. A blooming effect which ...

Re: High level brake light
I agree - good idea! I fitted one years ago and used those telescopic magnetic pickups. (mines a 2 door) so used the above to stick to the shelf below rear window and mounted the light to the top of them. I didn't use the small (8mm?) ones but those with larger magnets. Height adjustable and they ha...

Re: Hot switch
Not long after I got my Morris I was coming out of the works carpark when the dashboard emitted clouds of smoke - quite alarming! It was caused by high resistance in the light switch, I seem to remember I was able to dismantle it and after cleaning it all up has given years of service since. Definit...
