Re: New presenters on Top Gear

Devil's advocate time.

Bearing in mind the BBCs argument regarding licence fees for senior citizens versus the ability to make 'quality' shows, perhaps axeing Top Gear would be a satisfactory start to keeping their budget in check.

Re: I just do not believe some people!

I witnessed similar a short while ago, unbelievably at a classic car show. Let's call them car#1 and car#2. Car#1 parks neatly where requested by a steward. Car#2 arrives. Driver ignores the steward (who by now is getting a bit inundated with arrivals) and parks next to car#1 at a 30 degree angle, a...

Re: Where to purchase cars?

Depends where you are in the country. I got mine from Sussex Classics at Crawley Down. Happy to pay a bit more from a good dealer, although we thought our car was a good price. Satisfied that the guy was pretty genuine as I talked to him before I committed to purchase. Actually Stuart there was a r...

Re: Ashtrays

The tunnel mounted ashtray pictured in Original Morris Minor is actually photographed in the smoke grey 4-door (page 85) and the green 2-door convertible (page 86), two of the other cars featured in that chapter. I may be wrong but I'd imagine the folding arrangement of a Traveller rear seat preclud...

Chrome grille was discontinued in March 1951(chassis number 90117) but apparently remained an optional extra for 'a short while' after that date.

I have a rattle at certain speeds. I"ve traced it to a missing grommet where the bonnet release rod passes through the bulkhead.

Yes I saw the Austin's including the Woody (yours I believe). I waited around for a while but didn't see anyone near it apart from admirers of course! A good display of cars! 👍

Re: passenger side foot well hole series 2

Depends where the hole is in the footwell. Guesses would be access to steering rack lubrication or, as you say, fitment for LHD dipswitch which IIRC was attached to some kind of bracket and mounted up by the nearside wheelarch panel.

Re: Factory fitted ammeter?

I've been thinking about this one. I don't recall any of BMCs A-Series cars having a factory-fitted ammeter and very few B-Series cars (MG and Riley saloons being the only ones that come to mind). The ammeter seems to have been a 'luxury' item in BMCs view as it was a factory-fit in a fair few large...

Re: Application for a registration certificate UVK 323

The registration number was issued by Newcastle-upon-Tyne council. According to the resource I use, it was issued between September 1954 and March 1955, which clearly doesn't match the age of your car. As my resource has some inaccuracies, that is of little concern. My point being that an inquiry to...

Re: Virginia Beach LCV Resto

The warning light was apparently a small-scale BMC gimmick. Fitted to Minors from around 1964 to 1968 (approx) and to The Mini/Elf/Hornet of the same era., which shared the same style speedometer, with the light fitting provided in it. To answer part of the OPs question - there was never any mandato...

I may be wrong, but isn't there an on-line option to tax it, selecting 'I haven't got the new keeper supplement' (or green slip)?

These are the right ones for a 1957 car. I was tempted by these new old stock some time ago but they were $389 a pair so I kept my old battered ones. Has anyone had any luck refurbishing this type ? Mine have been refurbished in the dim and distant past. They look terrible. One side of each is beig...

Re: MM screen chrome inserts

The chrome inserts on my Series 2 were lose at the lower outer corners (I need a new rubber seal really as thin strips of it a peeling away). As a 'temporary' fix I re-attached the chrome inserts using super-glue. Even working in such a localised area it took 2 or 3 attempts before the trim stuck pr...

Re: Keeping a Minor Outdoors

Just a quick bit of input. I've kept my Minor outdoors on the driveway for the past three years. No cover, portable garage or carport. The only noticeable deterioration is to some of the chrome which is of lower-quality from overseas sources. The paintwork, which previously suffered damage from cond...
