Re: "Silly" choke cable question
I cured this problem by fitting a Marina cable which is perfect, apart from the non original appearance.

Re: A new home for Max the Minor
Mines a 1980 Mk 3 1.3. Did toy with fitting MGB motor and box, but would have entailed too much "cutting and shutting" to accommodate the over drive box. (I bought it less engine). It now has an Ital A+ 1300.

Well done, good choice(apart from the auto bit).
I have one too, and (whisper it) I prefer driving it to my Minors!

Re: Gearbox prices
I entirely agree with the post above from many minors. Having just spent a similar sum that he suggested in restoring a Van to a good standard (which I have no plan to sell) he is, sadly, absolutely correct in his assessment of the youth today. Of course there will be the usual exceptions to the rul...

Re: Torsion
This has been covered many times on here, but the easiest way( I have been told by a restorer of some experience) is to loosely assemble the components EXCEPT the thick bottom arm and position this so that the outer end of the arms are 17 1/4" from the top of the wheel arch and then slide the a...

Re: Sump leaking after new gasket
Very timelyl for me, as I am trying to cure sizeable "seepage" from both ends of my Marina Engine (unusually fitted to a Marina :D ). I do have some old gaskets sets which have the items that I require--but which are the best type/make to choose please? Should say, before anyone suggests i...

Re: Van Rear Door Gap
Just finished mine, and had the same issue.
Not saying that it is the correct/factory way, but I "adjusted" the hinge mounting holes to get the doors even?
Have to say they are ok when fully closed but does need a "nack" to close them.

Just to confirm that a replacement thermostat did indeed cure the wavering gauge readings.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Interesting. Can I ask where did you source your crankshaft bush from please, and have you had this modified?

Re: Engine in bits for a rebore-anything else worth doing?
Just my two p'nth, but after almost completing this conversion and had similar problems  , I am hoping that the bush (resized ESM article} is fitted to the FLYWHEEL to carry the first motion shaft of the Minor box ,as there is no way in the world that the Minor shaft will ever reach the Cranksh...

Re: Ital engine to Minor gearbox.
Just to wind this up AGAIN--hopefully? Nothing of the above fits properly, so have taken the nuclear option of fitting(after months of finding them) A+ block, Midget crank, rods, flywheel and backplate along with a Midget clutch. The block has already been bored +10 with A+ pistons. Thanks to Phil fo...

Re: Smiths Gauge worry.
Thanks Mike, that's interesting. I dismissed the thermostat as very unlikely, but will replace this as you suggest. The only thing that I have not mentioned is that the engine and drive train have not been touched during the 3 year restoration (as they did not need attention) and the gauge is an add...

Re: Smiths Gauge worry.
Thanks for replies which I understand and agree with completely, but it is the fact that the gauge swing back and forth constantly as soon as running temperature has been reached. Every other gauge of this type which I have seen and used remains constant with only small movements either way relating...

Re: Van wheel?
Mine are the LP 896 that Les mentioned, and notified to you on Facebook. They are 4 1/2j with the extra width added to the outside. I am completely perplexed as to their origin, despite asking many interested parties who have never seen this designation before. I bought them (off Ebay) from a seller...

Re: Smiths Gauge worry.
Its bog standard 1098 Saloon engine and as stated, a Smiths dual gauge which has a capillary type function as compared to electrical. It is mounted at the front of the head on the right hand side. I will deliberately overheat it and observe (currently it never travels past the 1/2 way mark) b...

Smiths Gauge worry.
Have completed the restoration of my Van, and have fitted a capillary type dual (oil/water) gauge, as fitted to MGB/Midget etc. The temperature part wavers constantly in the lower third of the scale, as soon as running temperature is reached. I have used these gauges previously, but have never encou...
