Re: Help identifying Hif44 inlet manifold

Unless you can weigh the flywheel against a known standard flywheel you should assume the flywheel has not been machined. The rear of the flywheel is concave as standard: Here is a standard flywheel for comparison. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MG-MIDGET-AUSTIN-HEALEY-SPRITE-GOOD-1275-CLEAN-FLYWHEEL-/11...

Re: Help identifying disc brakes

As I thought - the studs have been repositioned from the 3.75" PCD of the Marina to the 4" PCD of the Minor.
If you look closely you can see the repositioning sleeves/inserts.
A photo of the rear of the stud flange as per my photo above would fully confirm.

Re: Help identifying disc brakes

My advice for what it is worth is do not separate the caliper halves. There is absolutely no need to disturb the seals located between the two halves. There is a high probability that the seals will leak when re-assembled. The only seals that possibly need to be replaced are the piston and dirt seal...

Re: another clutch problem

There is only one clutch pedal return spring fitted but there are different clutch pedal return springs dependent upon the car. If you read the MOSS link you will see the applications with the respective part number. The part number COM130 as quoted in your link above is the correct clutch pedal ret...

It could be either dodgy commutator / worn brushes inside the starter motor or a poor earth.

Re: another clutch problem

The retraction of the clutch pedal is controlled by the spring that goes between the end of the clutch yoke and the rear engine plate. Have you fitted the right spring - Pt No: AAA1628 (MOSS). The spring is quite strong and unless the pedal/linkage is seized should pull the pedal back to its normal ...

Re: Help identifying disc brakes

Whilst you can replace the caliper piston seals no attempt should be made to split the callipers. They are factory assembled and it does state categorically on the Lucas Girling Service Kit/Instructions K225/5....'DO NOT SEPERATE THE TWO HALVES OF THE CALIPER' (capitals are Lucas Girling not mine). ...

Re: Help identifying disc brakes

The disc brakes fitted to your Minor are Marina/Ital with the standard Lucas/Girling calipers.
Most likely a Grumpy's kit of parts used.

Re: advice please

The gasket will not move as it will be located by the two water pump locating dowels. The more solid bypass hose will fit easily as you fit the pump. As above grease the gasket before fitting. If you have the OE water pump there will be no problems re clearances of the impellor. Only on the 850cc/99...

Re: Knocking fuel pump

Sounds like normal operation. When the ignition is turned on the pump starts up (the kicking sound) and fills the float chamber. At speed the engine needs more fuel and the pump delivers more fuel (more kicking). Check that the float chamber is not leaking by turning on the ignition (but not start t...

Re: Changing propshaft

Before you remove the old prop-shaft - mark the diff flange and prop-shaft rear flange adjacent to one another. The reason for this marking is that the replacement prop-shaft may not be better balanced than the original prop-shaft and you may want to refit the original prop-shaft and with the markin...

Re: A series engine types

Just grab everything you can because most of the running gear and brakes as well as the Ital 1275cc 'A' Plus engine can be transposed over to the Minor. The later Itals had telescopic dampers on the front and they can be utilised, the bottom mounting bracket just bolts onto the top of the thick/thin...

Re: Mini Dampened pulley fouling

Matt Unfortunately the later damped pulleys are not a straight swop. The timing disc attached to the pulley has to be removed. The timing disc is attached by three or more rivets which can be easily drilled out so allowing the timing disc to be removed. Removing the timing disc does not upset the en...

Re: A series engine types

The final version of the Midget had the Triumph 1500cc engine. The MG Midget/Sprite 1275cc engine was a distinct type of 'A' Series in that it had the cam followers enclosed with no access covers. The Marina/Ital 1275cc engine is another distinct 'A' Series in that it had the oil filter mount cast i...

Re: Exhaust/manifold on 1275 and big valve 12g940 head engine

There were two types of exhaust manifolds fitted to the 1275cc Midget. The easier to adapt is the one (Item No: 50 - Pt No: 12G420) in the link below) without the three studded flange. See attached link for more details. http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/mg/midget/exhaust/exhaust-manifolds/...
