RE: oil

There must be a variation in dipsticks. Having completed an oil change in the saloon last night I noticed, for the first time, there is only a "full" mark on that dipstick. I checked the Traveller and that's the same? Just the word FULL with an arrow pointing up to the line.

I wonder what is on this plate to further complicate things? Not screwed but firmly fixed to body by other method adjacent to front left bumper mounting. NMP = Nuffield Metal Products (Birmingham) presumably. Sorry, my pic. will not post directly in spite of using IMG immediately before and a...

While trying to find some information on this, as I'm sure a few have , I found a website which I can't now find. :( It was "dedicated" to the Mini and it's designer Alec Issogonis. The strange thing was the page background had images of the little BMW now wrongly titled "Mini." ...

I use an 88 deg. c thermostat in the winter. It will not improve the air flow but it's surprising the difference a small increase to the available air's temperature makes.

RE: Re: RE: brakes

Probably none. But a bolt is stronger in tension and this particular bolt has shearing forces acting upon it so could be vulnerable because of that. Hopefully that's what bmc was trying to say?

iddy - if you're "into" fleabay then also have a look for the Minor workshop manual on c.d. They're usually in the Morris parts section. Kevin recommended these originally (I think) and a few on here have bought one. About £3 and it's just a matter of finding the relevant section and print...
The easy-out advice was bad - very bad !!
I hope that's not directed at my previous post because I certainly did NOT specifically or directly advise the use of Easyouts and the general information was given in good faith and from personal experience!

Iddy - For cylinder cover removal, with reference to the carburettor and manifold. After removing the air filter assembly, disconnecting the the vacuum advance pipe, choke cable and accelerator cable I have always found it possible and easier to move the whole lot out of the way and tie it off witho...

And a rocker adjusting screw can only come out in the direction of the pushrod which would be very unlikely, the "round" end will not pass through the rocker arm for it to fall out from above.

Just out of curiosity, and to confirm what I thought, the Heritage Certificates for both my cars (2dr saloon & Traveller, '62 & '57 respectively) do have the body number as well as the chassis number. So there must be a reference in BMIHT records of which body number relates to which vehicle...

I've found it best to use a centre punch as near as possible to the middle of the broken bit then start with a small diameter drill, say 2mm or 1/8" depending on your persuasion! Then work up to a larger size to accept the largest possible "Easyout" without expanding the stud. Persona...

Yes, I agree that they do seem a bit feeble, although adequate. But would stronger springs affect the load on the mechanism and/or motor?

RE: what engine is it ????

If the two engines are an unknown quantity and just purchased, personally I'd take the cylinder covers off anyway just to have a look at the pistons, bores and valve condition. The bore diameters could then be measured at the same time. This should indicate the engine c.c. Not sure of the measuremen...

Good to hear it's still around Kevin. Better than relying on cornflake packets. Now this is true, I didn't belive it at first - I used to buy gasket paper from The Jurex Rubber Co :o 8) on the Dock Road in Liverpool. Don't know if they're still around but it always promoted a snigger when their name...
