Re: What's this then?
That's really important on high performance cars, where the fuel line pressure and the vacuum pressure can be quite high Not applicable to vacuum negative pressure.🙂 It cannot go above atmospheric (for most applications).🙂 Perhaps I didn't word that well enough, I meant a higher gauge reading in bo...

Re: What's this then?
This video may shed a bit more light on why that happens:- So someone think it stops the fluid corroding the 'Air Valve'.... Umm, not convinced. If you look at the explanation of how it works on the mgb-stuff website, you can see that if the seal perishes on the piston, brake fluid will get into th...

Re: What's this then?
JJ has a point about the type of hose used. Vacuum hose is designed to withstand negative pressure on the inside, fuel hose is designed to withstand positive pressure on the inside. That's really important on high performance cars, where the fuel line pressure and the vacuum pressure can be quite hi...

Re: What's this then?
Thanks for that, super Info. Where's it taken from? Guess that's another job to add to the list  It's the standard instruction leaflet for the aftermarket Lockheed/AP Servo, widely available as a pdf file, this version came from Moss Motors: https://mossmotors.com/media/instructions/981-173.pd...

Re: What's this then?
Ha! :tu1: So it's not got anything to do with fuel after all. That “suitable for unleaded" text on there had me perplexed! Cheers chaps! Well technically there is a chance of fuel vapour getting in the pipe, which is why installation instructions usually say a U trap should be in the pipework....

Re: What's this then?
Most cars in my experience, having a Servo, it's on the other side as less brake pipework needed.
But yes it's a Servo and remarkably it's the right way up.

Re: Brake adjusters
Are the snail cam adjusters and masks identical for front and back brakes? One parts supplier has front ones not back ones listed but they look identical from the pictures. Quite simply, it depends on the year of car, or if an earlier car has been given the latter front brakes. When they fitted the...

Re: Front Brakes
myoldjaloppy has pretty much covered the matter of the brake components, but to answer your questions about bleeding.... I understand the pedal and pipe etc but do I pump all existing fluid out and then top up? Noooooo! The idea of bleeding is to get rid of any air in the system, the last thing to d...

Re: Radiator Lettering
Seen a radiator where SCOLDING is used, instead of SCALDING!!🤣 Reminds me of this sign that I saw in the USA when I was working out there. It was put up in the new car park of a USAF base I worked on... IMG00135.jpg The same week they completed a new road junction and put this sign up.... :-...

That is the 'breather', it's clearly identified on the Burlen/SU website diagram.

Re: indicator wiring
Ahh... I had an original 1970s Hazard Sw in my collection (having stored it for 40 years, I knew it would come in useful one day).... It has 4 outputs, so I just had to connect it to 2,3,6 & 7, a direct feed to each lamp. What we need to know is how your system was working before you tried to ad...

Re: Chassis number location 1966 convertible
The Car/Body number was moved from the engine bulkhead to the driver's (RH) floor pan when the Elephant Trunk heater was put through the bulkhead in 1963 ish. The change took place later than that. I have a 1965 car with the later dashboard/black speedo and flick switches which has the chassis numb...

The 8 connector relay is also clicking away there does not seem to be any power going to the the wires that feed the 4 corners, the no4 and no 8 connections on the relay come from the indicator switch, i put a test light light on these two connections and it lit up but no power reaching the rest i ...

Re: Chassis number location 1966 convertible
The Car/Body number was moved from the engine bulkhead to the driver's (RH) floor pan when the Elephant Trunk heater was put through the bulkhead in 1963 ish. So of course many later cars have lost the stamped number when the floor has been replaced. As regards the other numbers on the top thin long...

Re: Radiator Lettering
My car doesn't have a Warning stencilled on the Radiator, but I've now got a High Top Rad to replace the later one that is currently fitted (car is SII). As there's been discussion about when the Warning was first applied, I thought I'd take a look through Ray's Original Morris Minor book. The only ...

Re: SU Fuel Pump won't stop pumping
If you can't see any fuel leaking, it's probably an air leak in the pump or the check valve letting fuel run back to the tank. The pump is quite simple, the central armature moves up and down against a light spring pressure, when the diaphragm can no longer move because the carb float chamber has sh...

Re: Dead electrical starting
Certainly a beast of a truck. I liked the fact that the compressor was linked directly to the tyres somehow. That's some complex pipework just to inflate the tyres from in the cab. Some of the British Military Bedford MKs had compressors inbuilt, but it was just a long airline in a long thin side bo...

Re: Handbrake not working - slave cylinders won't slide
There should be no problem just taking the wheel & brake drum off and then getting some grease in behind the cylinder. As Phill says, use White Grease; you can get it in a spray can which is ideal for all sorts of lubrication job, hinges, catches, etc and over the battery terminals too. Just be ...

Re: Dead electrical starting
Is he meaning a pre-engaged starter? Hi-torque only refers to the amount of turning power available, not the bendix or pre-engagement arrangement. A 'High Torque' Starter has a gearbox attached to it. A modern electric motor spinning really fast, with a reduction gearbox to the output . Intention b...
