Hi everyone, In the end, I went with Footman James. They were about the same as AON for fully comp, but unlike AON gave me the option of opting for third party at just over £300 (which I took). Now the old Morris is insured and tomorrow will be going in for its first MOT since I bought it. Wish me l...

Thanks very much everyone. I'll be trying to sort the insurance out once and for all over the next week, which will mean that getting an MOT (!) is the only thing stopping me driving the Morris to the Dorset Branch rally in a couple of weeks. I've just had a good quote from AON, which is £658 fully ...

Replaced mine about a fortnight ago. Absolute pig of a job to do, even with a helper. Maybe its just my stubborn 1970 Minor up to its usual tricks, but fitting the new rear seal was almost impossible! In the end I called in the porfessionals, and even they had trouble - apparently the new seal didn'...

I replaced the seriously worn simplex on my 1098 with a duplex - not exactly silent now but much quieter than the old one (although maybe a new unworn simplex would be just as quiet?). Once I'd battled to get the old one off, the new duplex went on a treat. No idea if there will be any advantages, b...

Insurance for young Morris driver
Hi there, Can anyone recommend any good insurance companies, especially those that look kindly upon new young drivers in Morrises? After what seems like an eternity, I've finished fixing my old two door and I'm nearly ready to take to the roads in it (yipee!!!), but I need to sort out the insurance....

Cracks in the b-posts are a bit troublesome on 2-doors, but should be straightforward to weld up again. I've heard its a common problem on 2-doors and mine is certainly no different. I'll be sending mine to have its b-post welded up soon. As you'll already know, rust is the most important thing - tr...

Hi everyone, I'm this mysterious Ben person who's been flooding Minor Matters with articles about my old two-door! I know this is an old subject, so nobody's probably reading this, but if anyone is out there - hello! It's me! My computer died last week so I didn't see this topic until today, but tha...

Help! Nut on front of 1098cc cam causing trouble!
Does anyone know the size of the nut on the front of the camshaft of the 1098cc engine? I’ve been having trouble removing the nut. It just won’t budge, which is really annoying as I’m in the middle of replacing my timing chain! I knocked back the lock washer on the nut and, as I didn’t have a socke...
