Re: Taxation

If you go into a post office with your insurance certificate, V5 (not really necessary but good backup) and MOT exemption, they will do it there and then. However, it's much easier on the Internetweb, and you can do it any time - go to 'Car Tax', make sure it's the Gov.UK site (there are scam sites ...

Re: Saloon values

Cars for restoration seem to be 1000 to 2000 now - of course they used to be 50 quid, but I had to compete hard to buy my car on Ebay for 1500-odd, now on the road and MOTed (not required, of course, if you are ultra frugal) it has cost about 3000, and when it has had new wings and a quality repaint...

Re: Driving to Scotland - Any Tips?

As to spares, I'd say coil, points and condenser but not whole distributor (depends on space), fuel pump, fuses and bulbs, and fan belt. 'Van of death'

I have owned several Minors, and they have all been a pleasure to drive, and had very safe handling. However, when I was a young lad, we used to service the vans of an electrical contractor in Winchester, whose policy was to buy ex electricity board vans at Southampton Auction - LDs, J4s and Minors....

WSL 179

WSL 179 - I recently bought this car with this 'age related' DVLA number, which I have now replaced with the period Bournemouth number 4862 RU, reflecting those I saw around me when I was young, and bought my first Minor, Black with red interior like this one. Does anyone know what the original numb...

Re: Driving to Scotland - Any Tips?

Hi James - I often drive to Scotland for work (from Thetford, Norfolk) and have tried different routes. I urge you to take the A1 for most of the journey - it's pretty ordinary up to Newcastle, but after that it is a road I always enjoy - a mixture of single and dual, lightly trafficked, very smooth...
