Re: Mr Grumpy Brake Disc Kit
Sorry that all the images in my original posts have disappeared but Photobucket wants me to upgrade my account at a cost of $399 to permit hosting on 3rd party forums. I'm not willing to spend that amount obviously but if anyone knows an alternative image host I'm happy to amend the links in the ori...

Dashboard Blank
I have a late Morris Traveller with a column mounted steering lock and the dashboard position for the ignition switch has been filled with an small sized power outlet which could be useful but I don't like the look of. I can't find a parts diagram indicating what the correct blanking plug should be....

Re: Brake Lights Not Working On Split Screen
Can't be sure yours is the same pressure operated brake light switch but mine went last year and reading up it is a common problem. Advice I read at the time was to wrap area around the switch with rags and quickly swap the switches over. You'd loose a lot more fluid if you have a high level remote ...

Re: Mr Grumpy Brake Disc Kit
Noticeable improvement after 100 mile run around East Lothian last weekend. No servo so still requires a good shove but I'm very happy with how they perform.
MOT tomorrow so hope the tester like them too!

Re: TRE splitters and gaiters
I changed a steering rack gaiter the other week and it was a horrible job. First had to hack saw through the old retaining clips as it was impossible to get a screwdriver onto the existing fixing. Used the same type of ball joint splitter as shown above but was unable to move the TRE locknut despite...

Re: Parking brake or first gear?
On a slightly different tack, when you sit behind a car at traffic lights, notice the lack of handbrake use, and the blinding from stop lights instead. Are people too tired to pull a lever? ----- I'll answer myself, Yes! Hope I haven't offended anyone here!!!!! According to my wife she was taught t...

Re: Weller rims - hubcap problem!
I had been thinking of getting a set of wheels but at £500 plus tyres it seems very expensive. For the last month or so I noticed that the website has said "out of stock" maybe they are reviewing the design before selling again?

Re: Mr Grumpy Brake Disc Kit
Finally got this finished today and been for a test drive, all good but will need a while for pads to bed in. Wife says it seems like I've been working on this for ages, true but during this time it's hardly been regular sessions in the garage. Thanks to all those who helped me via the forum. Finish...

Re: Master cylinder removal
I did this for the first time the other weekend, and then again a few days later when I decided to fit new copper washers to the banjo fitting- I'd recommend getting some first if replacing the master cylinder. I hooked a pry bar over the torsion bar and with a bit of wood against the floor just lev...

Re: Fitting a brake reservoir / header tank
I can`t imagine a reputable company producing a kit where you have to flare copper pipe. There is something wrong somewhere It is standard copper brake pipe from reservoir to MC, supplied unfinished for installer to cut pipe to length and fit the union, which requires a flare to be formed. If someo...

Re: Fitting a brake reservoir / header tank
I've got the JLH kit waiting to be fitted, uses a copper pipe from reservoir to MC. The only possible complication is flaring the end of the supplied pipe.

Re: Mr Grumpy Brake Disc Kit
Sleeper, I've not gone for a servo at this time. Thought I'd try without first and if necessary fit one at a later date- can't do all the fun jobs in one go! Phil, once again thanks for your invaluable advice in making sure I don't do anything daft. The Marina callipers are a new design to me, I've ...

Re: Mr Grumpy Brake Disc Kit
Thanks Phil, a Marina workshop manual would be a good idea so I'll keep an eye out on Ebay. I'm just a bit surprised that the fitting instructions with the kit don't give the bits of information that are missing, e.g. hub to disc torque (text is cut off in the instructions so it could have been ther...

Re: Mr Grumpy Brake Disc Kit
Just to give an update on where I've got to and a few other issues with the supplied fitting instructions. 1. No torque figure given for bolting disc to hub. Part of instructions cut off 2. 8 No washers supplied but no reference in the instructions as to where they should go. 3. Instruction to fit c...

Re: Mr Grumpy Brake Disc Kit
The SKF part number is exactly the same as the KG bearing supplied with the kit. They come as a matched two part set of bearing cup and the cone bearings. Inner bearing is 30205 J2/Q. Re: Mr Grumpy Brake Disc Kit
Thanks Phil, reckon mine is in the same region. I tried the wet and dry paper with Ferrosol and it has done the trick. Still a firm fit but can pull it on and off now at least. I've not done bearings on the Morris before but first few cars were Mk1 and 2 Fiestas followed by a Mk2 Golf and i changed ...

Re: Mr Grumpy Brake Disc Kit
I spoke to my Dad earlier, who originally owned the Traveller, and he suggested using a micrometer to measure the stub axle. In a mad Ebay moment I bought an old Moore & Wright imperial micrometer last year. It is difficult to get a totally accurate measure on the stub axle as can't be sure it i...

Mr Grumpy Brake Disc Kit
Having fitted new eye bolt bushes this morning I started fitting the brake disc kit this afternoon. All went well until trying to offer up the new hub to the stub axle. The original hub had to be removed with a puller but wouldn't have said it was ridiculously tight once it started moving. The new i...

Re: Eye Bolt bush replacement
Got it done today thanks, just needed a heftier thump with a hammer to get it moving and the rear arm shot off the splines. It also took the tipex markings that I'd made with it! Luckily the trolley jack was still at much the correct height for the lower arm so it was a good guide to re-setting the ...
