I love the way you got a soft focus on the middle photo, just to make it look like an original period image.....
Seriously, is that a period photo, as I notice the mirrors are at a different orientation.....

Re: Electronic ignition worthwhile?
My car came with an Accuspark Electronic ignition system fitted. In the first few months after buying, we broke down twice on the A1 with a totally dead engine, resulting in getting towed home. Both times the RAC guy confidently blamed the Electronic Points unit. After the first time the car ...

Yes yes, but did you like the Mull article?    Whatever magazine I'm reading I always start by reading the smaller bits and build up to anything over 2 pages.... I'm currently questioning the validity of the Vehicle History Conundrum article, since it states that the DVL...

Re: Minor Matters May/June 2021
What is this obsession with the arrival of the magazine? I’m not telling whether or not mine has arrived! :D That's kind of where I was coming from. I was surprised to get mine before the usual round of 'Where's my magazine' started so thought I'd cynically start it going to see what happened.

Manyminors where is it available please. ?I can't find it on ESMCheers JohnG Internet Search for it, ESM are not the only place for spares... I've seen them on ebay in the past and as ManyMinors said, it was widely used, so can be found on some Classic Mini or perhaps MG spars sites. There's one on...

Re: Purolator Oil Filter Assembly
Not a problem I have since the engine was previously modified to a canister type. However, I found this diagram and explanation that might help with correct assembly; although it provides a number for each item, it doesn't then provide a list of the items..... https://mgaguru.com/mgtech/engine/of100...

Hi I assume the door cards weren't black though so what were they, red? I've successfully used a touch up pen to cover scratches on mine www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261102106655 Perhaps finding a supplier of different sizes would allow you to get a small container to try on an area that's not usually seen, u...

Re: Accident rate caused by Classics MOT exemption ?
From my experience of researching Road Accident Data, since I'm currently chair of our Parish Council's Road Safety Committee, it is nigh on impossible to drill down to the specifics of vehicles involved. Insurance companies may hold it, but this past 18 months has been so skewed with the lack of ve...

I posted this because there had been nothing on the forums for almost 5 hours, since just before 8:00am, so I thought I'd just do something to see if they were broken... lo and behold, PhiltheHill was posting something at the same time

Re: Strange whirring noise under bonnet
All Modern Cars are Negative Earth. All Minors were built Positive Earth , but many have been converted to Negative Earth simply because you can't get hold of things like negative earth Radios any longer. Equally, if the car is now fitted with an after-market Alternator finding one of them with a '...

Re: Strange whirring noise under bonnet
The trouble with diagnosis by letter, is not being there to actually see/hear it. Firstly yes fuel pump clicks when key is turned. That's a good sign, if its the normal click rate and then stopping after a short while, it should mean fuel is OK When the headlights are turned on the ignition st...

Re: Strange whirring noise under bonnet
Hi Just to review some of your comments for clarity, ours and yours. so you get the engine making a trying to start noise Is that just the engine turning over on the Starter, i.e just constant turning and nothing else, or is it actually giving the occasional kick as it tries to 'fire' ? I'm assuming...

Re: Strange whirring noise under bonnet
simmitc has pretty much said it all, well enough to be getting on with, because these points need covering first. As myoldjallopy has said, 'What exactly do you mean by "the engine does turn over rapidly but doesn't start and after a few goes just dies." Such a phrase means different thing...

Re: Dipstick washer
Ok thanks for that, just thought a measurement from a correct dipstick would be definitive. Hi Les So my car is supposed to have a 948 engine according to the paperwork I have, but 18 months ago, courtesy of PhiltheHill I was able to identity the various part numbers of Block & Head to learn th...
