Re: relay connections

Any ignition 12V source from the fusebox. In fact, just rig up a piece of wire with a crocodile clip (or even wire end with a loop on it and fitted into the batter clamp - it's only temporary, just don't leave it connected) to the non-earth battery terminal, and crimp on a female connector to fit th...

Re: Identifying & checking dynamo & starter

Early ones were C39 but were superseded by the C40 with the 1098 I believe. They are distinguished from each other by the terminals, the former using brass ring terminals to connect, the latter using conventional Lucar connectors.
Either will work just as well in a Minor however.

Re: seal at rear of ribbed case gearbox

Should probably mention this was using a NOS rear seal - can't vouch for new ones being as straight forward to fit!

Re: seal at rear of ribbed case gearbox

The workshop manual quotes a tool, I just twisted the old one off with a set of Stilsons and put the new one on, not to difficult, didn't need any special tools.

Yes.
I think the 803 ones are slightly different.
I 'think' the one on the right is a Marina one. The other standard Minor.

Re: reg check urgent please

If it has a zip in the head lining, it was a panda car. Unless someone's stuck a zip on to fool you, or swapped the headlining over, but that seems unlikely. The zip was a specific panda car feature to access the roof lights I believe, though some day it was to stash bribes ;)

Re: White Morris Pick-Up truck XUW 945

Very sorry to hear that. Can you give any more info? When (ie at night, from in garage) and how (if you know) it was stolen? Picture? Location? Colour? Every little helps when searching for a lost car. Plus any other distinguishing feature you may know of. It's not unknown for them to turn up. The m...

Re: Original regulator with C40/1 dynamo?

I had a 1958 948 Minor with a later C40 dynamo fitted, yet retaining the original screw terminal regulator as you have pictured.
As a daily driver car, I can confirm that it works in that fashion.

Re: Any Yorkshire / Leeds / Bradford Members ?

Are you local to Leeds yourself? If so, why not join the Leeds branch? You'll get all the advice you need, maybe get to sit in a few members cars and see which you like. Perhaps one of their members will accompany you to view a potential buy? They meet on the first Wednesday of every month at the Ga...

I modified a 1098 backplate as BMC describes to an Ital A+ engine and did not have to do anything to the pump cover on the backplate?

Re: New member

As long as you're committed to servicing them as regularly as they need it, there's no reason you can't use one as a 'commuter car'. Depending on your commute, you may want to consider a bigger engine from a later car, as 48-53 cars had a 918 side valve, and 53-56 models had the 803 ohv engine which...

Re: Starting issues.

It sounds like a starter earth issue to me. The ignition and oil warning lamps go out, indicative of all available current going to starter, but poor earth/return so pulling more from the battery.

Manual quotes 37-39lb/ft for wheel nuts.
I run my Traveller (van rims) at 30PSI which it seems to like.

803cc ohv, so you'd assume so.
Engine tag is below no1 plug, does it match the one quoted on the bulkhead plate?

Re: 1275 marina engine

Jack, The Ital box can be fitted, many also modify the box to fit a Triumph overdrive unit, but much more involved. It differs from the Minor 1098 box in that it is a much stronger box, and has synchro on all gears. It is far larger than the Minor box, to fit means a new prop shaft, gearbox mounting...
