Re: Name of rubber parts on door?

I've never been able to find them in the AKD3541 or 3542. The illustration you're expect them to be on is this one :-? It clearly shows the little 'Washer (rubber)' item 25 that Phil noticed missing. Door Stuff.JPG I note that your door peg rubber is missing. Thanks Phil, you don't know they're miss...

Great purchase, who knows what you might find hidden somewhere...
Back in the era of our early Minors, such Village/Town Streetside Fuel Pumps were a common sight. I believe the one in Wainfleet Lincs is still operational. heavens knows where their bulk tank is :o .
I wonder what you'll find :-?

Re: Daughters car won’t start

Although you appear to have it sorted now by cleaning terminals, it's worth mentioning that when I had the same symptoms almost a year ago, it was the battery connection.

Re: It's never the coil

How 'modern' is your modern with regards it's design? From the way you're talking, I assume it has a single identifiable Coil? Most if not all petrol Cars these days have a 'Coil per Plug' system. There's some useful videos on youtube for coil defects. The benefit of Coil on Plug is that you can pul...

Unless A) the person who transferred the original reg is reading these pages, or B) someone now has the car and has old paperwork showing the change of registration, your chances of finding out if the car was scrapped or given a new Reg are Diddly Squat. I know my car's past registrations (it had 2 ...

Re: Do I need a lead replacement additive?

Hi Jason Welcome. You're correct, all the solid things you put in the tank that claim to be a 'one time remedy' are just one big confidence trick. If your car has the original engine still, I'll leave confirmation to someone who also has a side-valve, but IMHO, for any A Series engine the answer is ...

Re: Engine identification.

Having had to scrape off loads of pale grey, sticky, putty like sealant, which got everywhere and I had to be very careful not to touch anything else as it was a total swine to remove (you can still see some residue in the photo); on refitting, I used draught excluder tape that I already had in the ...

Excellent thank you! I was going to undo that so thanks for confirming. So I'll remove that, blast some water down the thermostat hole and see what happens.    If you find that tap waterway clear, it'll be the first I've heard of. Thanks for that . The problem is solved. Great information I'm guessing the wire you spoke of was not original. :-? Hi Sorry for your loss, I know what it's like trying to get the 'ducks in a row' when a parent leaves us. With regards the car, depending where you are exactly, I would recommend contacting the folks at the NEMMOC Branch. They may have a member near you that could come around and have a look at the ...

Re: Heater control tap - simple solution

The cable operated ones, even "good" ones, have never been that great; so I think that this is a good alternative. The only downside is that both the original and new valves MY FAVOURITE CAR IS A DATSUN CHERRY off circulation to the rear of the head. The ideal is a diverter valve that pas...

Re: Securing outer choke cable?

Thanks Berni. I think I follow. So, slacken at the carb…pull inner through a bit tighter to increase the tension, re-tighten securing nut and that should do the trick? Out of interest, I don’t suppose you know what size that tiny securing nut is? Yep, that's about it. The Nuts are probably BA, ther...

Re: Securing outer choke cable?

You haven't adjusted it enough. I'll see if I can explain this without confusing myself, or anyone else. The way I look at it, the outer is just a loose flexible tube, what keeps it in place is the inner pulled tight. Basically, adjust the tension on the inner until there is no slack on the outer, b...

As for the new points, I DID NOT clean them first 🤦🏼‍♂️ as I didn’t know about the coating on them. Would the coating cause an intermittent spark? I find it strange that with all these changes I made at the same time (as part of a good reconditioning service) the car fired up straight away & dr...

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I will have to replace them. I asked a question a while ago.... if I have Winter tyres on my car, and I have a crash in Summer... am I un-insured? Will it be my fault for running on the 'wrong' tyres? No, there is no requirement to change tyres in the UK. The Spec...
