Re: 9" brakes

RIMMER BROS at Lincoln supplied me with a set of Triumph TR7 rear shoes, GBS813. £20.71 + £9 postage, I was in the area, so managed to pick them up, for free, fitted spot on, after slight modifications.

Thanks and regards Win

9" brakes

Hi I am looking for some replacement front brake shoes, they are 9" diam x 1.5 "wide to suit Wolseley drums, original number is RBS 13. I understand Triumph 2.5 rear fit, after small mods, not sure which model, has anyone any, part numbers?, to obtain them local. Also is it worth investing...

Re: valve timing

Hi All To continue, fitted a 5 Degree offset key, gaps now inlet .042" exhaust .056". The engine now runs much smoother, and therefore the timing is much easier to set up, and there is no kick back on starting. On the road there is a marked improvement, lets hope the MPG improves by 25%. T...

Re: valve timing

Well spotted Les, you are correct.
But I had moved to sprocket round one tooth to try and get the valve timing nearer, this gave me my second readings.

Re: valve timing

Sorry, no idea which cam.
Why not try to get it spot on, or do you think it will run better, one tooth advanced.

Re: valve timing

Checks always done with crank at TDC, I think a 5 degree offset key to advance camshaft should be about right.

Re: valve timing

Hi all To recap, inlet .033"-exhaust .072 with sprocket timing dots in line. moved camshaft sprocket clockwise one tooth, inlet .066"- exhaust .039". Looks like mid way would be better. I know you should never scale, but look at the pic with the rule lining up the dot and center of sp...

Re: valve timing

Hi all I have a 1275 Midget engine, I was never quite happy with it, I don't really know why. The ignition timing always appeared to be too far advanced, to start properly, but never pinked, starting it with the handle, you knew it was advanced. But the engine appeared to run OK. So I read this thre...

Re: Switching Polarity pitfalls?

Regarding coil polarity, To the best of my knowledge, to prove coil is connected correctly. Remove HT lead from spark plug, try to start the engine, but no need to start it, the spark should jump from HT lead to plug. Sometimes hard to see, put a lead pencil between them, may help. A better way, is ...

Re: tool review section

I recently broke my Britool E86 1/2" swivel bar, 24", not sure how long I have had it, but I think I paid in £.shilling & pence.
Took it to Britool, now Stanley, Mac tools. They replaced it without a quibble. What better accolade than that.
