Re: Fuel sender
It will be a poor earth; you need to clean a few of the screw securing holes where the tank sits in the car body.

Re: Inspecting an engine with the cylinder head off
Nope, a ridge does not always necessitate a re-bore. There are/were 'ridge-dodger' piston rings available for worn engines which can take up bore wear. It all depends on how severe the wear is.

Re: Water pump
No need to buy a replacement pump, just send the old one away for reconditioning as we have to do with the other rare cars. How many water pumps have been thrown away for want of a rebuild.

Hang on, is it leaking from the engine or prop shaft side of the gearbox, or both?

Beaulieu Moggyfest
Going down to Beaulieu for Spring autojumble booked into Dorset Branch moggyfest display inside the grounds, 260 miles each way on new engine, this will be the first time the car has travelled there after years of work, we’re greatly looking forward to it and seeing all the cars and buying more junk...

Could be one of the pressure plate ‘finger’ springs has been knocked adrift during fitting. Can you see from the inspection hole at the gearbox whilst someone turns the engine by hand.

Re: Oil leak near distributor?
Might not be coming from there, it isn’t a usual source of leakage. Look at the oil filter feed and pressure switch etc which are in the vicinity. Oil could be tracking from another source and collecting at the dist. drive.

It wouldn’t reduce boot space but actually increase it with the plywood shelf above the spare wheel/petrol tank removed.

That pinion oil seal wants seeing to. Can be done in half a day but you need a long breaker bar, socket and then a torque wrench to do it up again.

Re: What's this then?
The fuel hose may collapse internally due to engine vacuum, it should not have been used for this job. You can buy brake servo hose by the metre so an easy job to replace with the correct stuff.
