Re: ORIGINAL COLOR

A heritage certificate should confirm the original details from http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/ ... cates.html.

Alternatively you might find traces of original paint in some untouched corner such as behind the dash.

Re: How do you find your motivation?

When it all seems a bit mammoth take a break from the big jobs and polish some chrome or paint some small parts. This gives an impression of progress and is quite encouraging.

Re: Original krooklock?

The krooklock was rapidly discredited years ago. Thieves needed only to lean hard on the steering wheel rim and it could be unhooked from the pedal, no need for tools. Stolen cars were sometimes found with the lock intact and thrown in the back. Anything is better than nothing, but almost any device...

Re: Restarting a laid up Traveller - advice sought

You should have let off the handbrake three years ago! For long term storage the handbrake should be off to prevent seizing to the drums.

Probably a wiring connection has been disturbed, maybe at the fuse box.

If you buy new wings they should come with the rings attached.

If it needed several welded sections and many hours work and still isn't to your liking you might have been better off buying a new one.

Re: Door sag / hinge adjustment

If lifting the door doesn't show obvious play it may be that the surrounding metalwork has sagged under the weight. If this happens the door can be lifted with a jack to realign it.

Originally they would have been 1/4 BSF, not sure about length.

When I said the vertical plate I meant the plate with the hole in, as in jagnuts picture, not the vertical edge of the side plate. Sorry if I confused you.

Re: spray finish

You may be able to get a shine using rubbing compound, T cut or a fine metal polish, but you should let the paint dry and harden for a week or so first. I think plates were usually a satin type finish so needn't be too glossy.

They need to be installed with the vertical plate toward the front of the car.

You're not allowed to call them members any more. Political correctness gone mad! :D

Re: Longitudinal Member Assembly repair

These members can be repaired or replaced. You can buy either a complete one (parts people list them as chassis legs) or just the front half, depending on the extent of the corrosion, or if the hole is small they might be repairable in situ. I can't help with likely garage costs but if you go for fu...

Re: Morris Minor Million 699 MN on Postcard.

The Isle of Man had their own system of registrations, so I wouldn't expect it to appear on a DVLA check. The colours on old postcards can vary widely so the original car may have been nothing like that.

Re: Dismantling a 2 Door / Traveler Door

I will be needing a door bottom repair soon. Is it essential to remove and dismantle the door or can it be done in situ? With the door in place the alignment could be checked with surrounding panels as you go.

Remove door card before welding!

Re: Fibreglass

With rear fibreglass wings there are some poor quality ones which are very thin and show little star shaped cracks where stones fly up from the wheel. This can be avoided by adding layers of glass or thick rubbery under seal, but it's probably better to buy thick ones.

In the trailer I saw the car was parked in the middle of a field with characters running away from it, usual film makers cliché for 'it's going to explode'. If they wreck it lets hope it's not a good or rare one.

Re: Invisible to cameras?

I'm also in the Ford T Register and a member recounted how he was camera'd at 35 in his model T so Black and white plates can be spotted. He opted to appear before the magistrates as he wanted to know how he could be expected to comply so exactly when his car has no speedo. The official line is that...
