Re: Restarting a laid up Traveller - advice sought

Nearly but not quite Steve... I emptied the tank of the old fuel and put dome fresh in, the engine turns over but doesn't fire, not sure if the petrol pump is working?, when I turn on the ignition the other day, I heard the familiar "clicking" of the petrol pump but since then nothing(and ...

Re: Restarting a laid up Traveller - advice sought

Hi Ianmonty, sorry about the suspense, I know what you mean though, I've been waiting for around 5 years! Progress today, having put the oil down the bores, I tried turning the engine by hand and it turned nice and smoothly (phew!), I followed the instructions above with turning over the engine with...

Re: SADMOG (Sowf'ampton taawn)

Do any SADMOG folks still get together?, it's a good number of years since I went along, I wonder who is still in the Southampton vicinity?
Anyhow, I am (once again) trying to get Benny Morris on the road.... It'd be good to make contact once again.
Cheers, Mike.

Re: Restarting a laid up Traveller - advice sought

Thanks again for the additional comments / advice. I have (finally...) bought and fitted a new battery and leads (tails!?) and have put oil down each of the four bores. I will wait a couple of hours then try the hand cranking etc as suggested.
Here's hoping!

Re: Restarting a laid up Traveller - advice sought

Thanks for that, but don't the plugs need to be put back in for the engine to start and make oil pressure?, or am I missing something? (Sorry if I'm being dense here but I'm "mechanically challenged "...).

How do I drain fuel on a Traveller?

Hi, my 66 Traveller has been standing for far too long and I want to get it going again this year. Can anyone advise as to how to drain the fuel (tank etc) as the fuel will be very stale?
Thanks.

Re: Seized brakes advice sought

Just wondering.... The brake shoes looked like they have lots of wear left in them but should I be looking to change anything with the brakes having been seized , like the springs ?

Re: Seized brakes advice sought

Yay! I got the offside drum off. Now just to try and do the same with the nearside - bit less space so it could be a bit awkward.

Seized brakes advice sought

My rear brakes are seized and I have tried , the last 3 evenings, the banging with hammer , prying (gently but firmly) and sprayed penetrating oil but only succeeded in getting around 5mm of play in the drum. I have read that " heat" can help and will buy a camping gas blow torch and extin...

Re: Restarting a laid up Traveller - advice sought

Thanks for thise replies folks thats really helpful, first thing I need to deal with are the seized brakes. I read so ewhere that letting off the handbrake (with well positioned bricks by the wheels) might work , but they' ll probably need to be stripped as you sugest. Bit difficult getting to them ...
