Thanks Phil, that's good advice. I like the idea of using a piece of flat bar to simulate the position of the floor panel!
I did check the condition of the pedal return spring and it looks to be fitted correctly.

Re: Front brakes seizing after a short drive.
FIXED! Thanks to philthehill who was pretty spot on with his suggestion. It was indeed that the piston in the master cylinder wasn't fully retracted when the brake pedal was released. Whoever fitted that new master cylinder (just before I bought the car) adjusted the operating rod for the correct am...

Re: Split-screen chrome surround on eBay??
Well I'd definitely be interested in buying a new set of split screen chrome pieces if anyone succeeds in getting them re-manufactured.

Re: Split-screen chrome surround on eBay??
I'm after the drivers side split screen chrome but the condition doesn't look amazing for the money.

Mine has a slight lean to the right as well. More down to poorly adjusted torsion bars than rot though. I should have called her 'Eileen'

Re: Front brakes seizing after a short drive.
Thanks Phil, yes that sounds like a very likely candidate based on what's happening. I'll definitely have to do a bit of research on that.

Re: Front brakes seizing after a short drive.
Yes the springs are present and although they're not new, they seem to be in very good condition and like I said, the brakes seem to work perfectly for the first few miles before the front brakes start to bind more and more. The fact it only seems to happen on the front wheels makes me wonder if flu...

No I've heard about that little mod needed for disc brakes too but mine are just the original drums.

Thanks Richard.
I do have an original workshop manual so I'll have to take a look.

Front brakes seizing after a short drive.
Hi guys, I was wondering if any of you knowledgeable folk could give me any insights on a braking problem I'm having? After a month of hard work my newly acquired Series 2 (803cc) is now back on the road. In a previous little test drive I noticed that after driving a few miles the front brakes start...

Re: Newbie
Welcome to the forum, Pete. I'm in the same situation as a first time classic car owner. I also decided to go for a Morris Minor due to the parts availability and excellent club. Don't worry about silly questions as I'll be asking many of them myself! If you're interested then there's a link to my b...

1954 style air cleaner - opening?
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knows how to open up an early type air cleaner? My 1954 Series 2 has the old type air cleaner, a black cylinder containing a wire mesh which is horizontally mounted over the top of the carburettor. Looks like it's pretty clogged so I've removed it and wanted to clea...

Re: which tyres?
I ordered a set of Bridgestone B381 145/80 R14 from Pneus online. Β£55 each which I thought was pretty decent. They seem to be a very close match profile-wise to the original crossplys I'm replacing. Just waiting to have them fitted so I can provide a fuller report once I've driven a few miles on the...

Re: New member and quick question!
Thanks Leafie, that's good to know. I'll definitely be looking into getting cheaper oil when the car is next due for an oil change. The Castrol was a bit of an extravagance wasn't it! Glad you like the blog, John. I thought it was the best way to keep a record of all the work I've done and if it hel...

Re: New member and quick question!
Thanks for the advice, thankfully both the filler plug and drain plug came out without a problem and my gearbox now has 1.3 litres of lovely fresh oil in it.

"Silly" choke cable question
Hi all, I have a quick question which will probably seem pretty silly to a lot of you so forgive my ignorance. My last experience of a manual choke (before owning my Minor) was on a 1979 Mini. I remember that on the Mini, you pulled the choke out and twisted it to lock it into place. Should it do th...

I did some more work on the car so I'll be adding another page to the blog this morning.
I've decided to christen her "Gussie" seeing as I bought her in August. Haha.

Re: New member and quick question!
Thanks for the replies, guys. That's good to know, 20w/50 it is then! Yes that Castrol oil is really expensive stuff but that's my inexperience showing. I wasn't sure which one to go for so I bought the dearest one. π Ah well, it's only money as they say. I'll definitely look at buying some of that ...
