I was feeling all righteous about this being a staunch dynamo fan. Fatal! Two days ago no amps! Much pulling in and out of spare dynamos to no effect! Its a dead regulator- like really dead. And the final try of installing a dynamo and leaning over the wing to do it has tweaked my back so I can't st...

Steve, I should have added that my 1098 Traveller (with the round drum heater) is fitted with a 88C thermostat. This makes a big difference. If you change the thermo, flush the system. I used Purimachos "Flushex" made for central heating systems to very good effect. (I see that Homebase no...

Like SR I think you can safely blank off quite a lot. I use a total blank of hardboard with a 12 inch diameter hole centred on the fan spindle for all winter (Oct to April) and often going down to a 10 inch hole for Dec to Easter. No troubles, but then I don't idle regularly in traffic, but do often...

Dear Multiphon, I'm interested in your comment on not getting up to temperature. I've got a 88C thermo, and never get more than a 75C reading. Does this happen to anyone else? I've changed and checked the thermo and the gauge several times and come to the conclusion that the waterpump throws up the ...

Vernon, I've been awaiting years for my sealed beams to conk out so that I can justify replacing them - but no luck! So hang the expense! I'm going for the change and if I'm not amazed then it rude words to Scotland! But I'd check your volts if I were you. I can't find anyone down here that's had yo...

Re bmcecosse, If your fuel line's well clear of the exhaust then you've got the ideal installation! Have you a re-routed/non-standard exhaust system? Re Mr Cam (shall I drop the Mr? Its only a term of respect!) My counter's purpose is fuel flow metering, and this subject of vaporisation is incidenta...

Thakns for the piccies and details, Mr Cam. Mr Cam says "..it starts to vaporise BEFORE the pump..." Exactly. and then "You can hear the ticking over the engine at idle so you don't really need a counter." Well, that not the purpose of the counter, but my point is that at the ons...

Bmc, I don't think anyone blames the pump. Its the fuel getting too hot and turning to gas whch is then vented out the float chamber breather so starving the engine that stops the car.(Unless like me you direct it back into the carb.) If you've never had trouble it doesn't mean you've not had vapori...

Thanks Mr Cam! Your installation seems the definitive solution. Is this braided line the same as we often see between the pump and the carb ie attatched by jubilee clips? Is the Facet pump easily obtainable? Finally, what do you think of an SU mounted low? I think their output pressure is about 2 ps...

Has anyone fitted LEDs? I'm interested 'cos I'm up to three extra instruments with another three to fit and each has its 2.2 watt bulb to power that my dynamo could do without. (And before you start on alternators, I like my dynamo amd my dynamo likes me. Loyalty among old friends is a virtue.) I've...

Oh yes it is! Even when I was a lad and petrol was something you could wash your hands in, occasionally you got a stoppage on a hot day in traffic. And the latest fuels just exacerbate a poor detail in the design, the closeness of the fuel pipe to the exhaust pipe. (Have we got a fueloligist on boar...

Looks like only four of us interested in this problem, Kate! When's the date of your next parade? (Can't be this year surely?) We should bend our collective brains onto this - its the only true design fault on the car. There are other weaknesses, like the gearbox, but none as irritating as this. Mik...

Thanks for the prod, Ron. Rather lost my way here. Have become my father's executor and battles with solicitors and estate agents have eaten into valuable Moggie time. All proper sound deadening material I've seen comes in at £5 a square foot, sometimes more, which I suspect is too dear for most peo...

Haha! Done it! 150 miles without fault. Climbed up on to the A303 at full throttle - a minute later cruising at 60. And all that ignition work pays off - its so smoooooth! Oil pressure, charge and good water temp. All's well although its a bit switchy 'cos of crosswinds - must get the rack changed. ...

Well friends, tried crash stops again and no noticeable improvement. Hey ho! I get my Wolseley nine inchers in the next ten days so I'll just take care till then. I think a proper cure is going to need a space age solution like ColinP suggests. With a thermocouple on the fuel line out of the pump and a pump stroke counter I found over the last two years that whenever the fuel temperature is over 21/23C vaporisation will occur. And in hot summer spell the fuel...

Got it sorted! Changing every item in the ignition circuit made no improvement! What to do? Drove around with bulb across coil and it had electrical power at times including stoppages. Only the fuel system left. But the SU petrol pump is only 8 months old and only done 10k miles and still bright and...
