I have an electronic one on the windscreen. It's OK but not as good as a proper aerial.

Not sure what your fault is but I would recommend electrical contact spray in the 1st instance. I have used this to fix crackly switches and even one radio that kept blowing fuses on the on off switch. It's very cheap from screfix etc and 1 can will last a very long time

If the adjustment is not doing anything it could be wear to the needle or jet. These do wear and changing them can result in dramatic improvements. I think I would start here if you don't know the history of the jet and needle

Are you able to do a compression test on it? That might give us some clues into what is wrong. Given your description I am suspicious of the head gasket but the compression test will prove or do prove this

I have fitted the lucas kit. It was reasonably straight forwards. I was glad of it when my fuel pump stopped working on a country lane

I use standard seat webbing which is availae very cheaply. It's been on my cars for 15 years.

You can reuse all the old clips if you prize them open with a suitable leaver and pliers

When I did my van I sourced a black filler strip. This was a little more flexible and hence easier to fit

I use plastic coated washing line to fit them. It's smooth and does not snag like cord can do.

Front screens usually go in OK, but the filler strip is another matter.

I have had 2 lucas sports coils a few years ago Both failed in service after a few months. I would not advise using these.
