Re: Best radio aerial type? Electronic any good?

I have had 2. One came from Halfords and the second eleshwhere. Both had 12 volt feeds-I used the electric aerial output from the radio so it is not live unless the radio is on. Both were earthed to the car As for location it's on the front screen behind the mirror. As per earlier note they are not ...

Re: Best radio aerial type? Electronic any good?

I have an electronic one on the windscreen. It's OK but not as good as a proper aerial.

Original carpets - gearbox oil grommet/bung

When I fitted new carpet set 20 years ago I thought my original one had the bung for the gearbox oil top up cut out into top layer. (so you can see the bung on the left hand side of the tunnel) I am beginning to wonder if this was not the case. Does anyone still have original carpets to see. Mine is...

Re: Gearbox noise (with video)

It will be really interesting to hear what others think, but are sure sure its the gearbox? It sounds to me that this is more related to engine revs, which might point you elsewhere I would start checking engine and gearbox mounts to make sure this is not the issue. I would also have a look at the e...

Re: Advantages of a 3:9:1 diff

I have run a 948cc on a 4.22 diff. To my mind it was underpowered and I would not recommrnd

I now run a 3.9 on a good 1098 engine. This works really well for me. I have taken it up several climbs over 2000 meters in Switzerland in this combination without any issues

Re: Save a Moggy? Can a newcomer do it

I suspect many who slate gasless welding have never really tried. I have welded up 2 cars with gasless. I find it far more practical for occasional use. I can go many months if not years between jobs. The quality of welding wire does vary so its certainly worth investigating this if you are having i...

Re: Classic Car Radios - Recommended Repairers

Not sure what your fault is but I would recommend electrical contact spray in the 1st instance. I have used this to fix crackly switches and even one radio that kept blowing fuses on the on off switch. It's very cheap from screfix etc and 1 can will last a very long time

Re: Carburetor adjustment doing nothing

If the adjustment is not doing anything it could be wear to the needle or jet. These do wear and changing them can result in dramatic improvements. I think I would start here if you don't know the history of the jet and needle

Re: Engine misfire advice

I have been watching this thread with interest. I thinks there is a lot of superstition around head gaskets and what makes them last. I have had 2 payen copper gaskets fail. The shortest was 3000 miles on a refreshed engine where both the head and block were skimmed before fitting. I personally will...

Re: Heater valve replacement?

I went down a different route fitting a 3 way valve. This ensures water is always passing through the top of the head and is either sent back(off) or to the heater(on). I was able to use the original control inside the car to operate the valve The valve I used is in the link below. I fitted it insid...

Re: Engine misfire advice

Are you able to do a compression test on it? That might give us some clues into what is wrong. Given your description I am suspicious of the head gasket but the compression test will prove or do prove this

Something at the back of my mind tells me this can occur if you have a 948 gearstick in a 1098 box?

Might be worth looking at 1st

I have fitted the lucas kit. It was reasonably straight forwards. I was glad of it when my fuel pump stopped working on a country lane

Re: Seat straps

I use standard seat webbing which is availae very cheaply. It's been on my cars for 15 years.

You can reuse all the old clips if you prize them open with a suitable leaver and pliers

When I did my van I sourced a black filler strip. This was a little more flexible and hence easier to fit

Re: Installing a windscreen

I use plastic coated washing line to fit them. It's smooth and does not snag like cord can do.

Front screens usually go in OK, but the filler strip is another matter.

I have had 2 lucas sports coils a few years ago Both failed in service after a few months. I would not advise using these.
