Strangely enough BMC it was the standard pump, they havent come back with a reason yet, dry joint? weak component? who knows? but the words "new tooling" were muttered.
It has been some weeks now and they have promised of course a new replacement, but the mans cars symptoms are identical.

Re: VW weekend
Of course the question is, is it worth driving a VW just for a good weekend away? My missus had one once, when the phrase "if only everything in life was as reliable as a volkswagen" was de riguer, how we laughed every time she rang me when she broke down with ever alarming frequency, usua...

Re: engine cutting out when hot
have an annoying problem which is now getting beyond a joke. Car (1965 1098) runs fine for first 15 miles or so then splutters to a standstill. Turn off, leave for 5 mins and she will start and run for half a mile before spluttering to a stop again. It is not he fuel pump, coil, condenser, rotor arm...

I visited Tokyo once on business in the late eighties and asked the financial director of a large Japanese based manufacturer how they proposed to stave off the competition from China andTaiwan, when he had finally gotten over the impudence of this western upstart he stiffened and replied "mond...

Re: Powerful engine???
I have seen articles on the fitment of a rover 3.5l V8. I imagine a great deal of additional mods are needed, the old SD1 Rover engine I fitted once to a pilgrim sumo was only around 128bhp, not poweful by todays standards, but fitted to a car half the weight of the body it was removed from, had a t...

Re: theres nothing new under the sun
I bet it costs more than a Minor filter Quite a bit more Mike, the Honda compensates in some ways though, 45-50 mpg for one, but servicing is expensive, hence the diy interest, it remains of course quite a dull and soulless machine, reliable to the point of tedium, which is whats needed for work of co...

I dont often have a lot to add to the forum Mark, but in this case........... I replaced a water pump because 94000 miles finally did it in,a thermostat because it was only a couple of quid and seemed sensible,a new cap because the old one was tired out and not seating and finally the radiator becau...

Re: Tips on increasing MPG
OK I have a normal 1098 2 door saloon, over 8 full tanks she only seems to be managing 29.8mpg, can I realistically improve this? Plugs are a nice biscuit beige, oil and filter changed recently, new air filter 2 tanks ago. Offers..... or am I being too ambitious. I mostly drive in a rural, hilly are...

Re: Wing Mirrors
Mine are identical to yours, I had to cut the bolts a little shorter to fit.
I drilled a pilot hole of small dia first and utilised some masking tape to avoid breaking of the paint, as my steel plates are painted not chrome, very nice job though they do look tidy.

Re: over heats
so i should just bypass the heater as i dont have a heater valve . stick a bit of tape over the temp guage, to avoid distraction ,drive around listening for groaning noises ,whatching for steam with a couple of botles of water in the back, I'll try it and let you know :D oh that did make my day. If...

Re: over heats
Turn the heater off. When up to temp, If the radiator cap opens and blows steam/hot water continually down the rubber drain pipe you are (as I was) overheating. If you lose a little water and the rad cap closes again then for me everything is ok, but running hot in warm weather. Carry plenty of wate...

Thanks for that, I collected the new rad today so I will conjour something up to insert before I fit it.
New rads dont come with caps and there is nowhere for a drain tap, the fins dont flake away when touched though.

I forgot to mention they are Northern wasps, impervious to most things and hard as nails, also if a wasp is injured it gives off a pheremone that attracts other wasps that charge to the rescue, true, I kid you not. Temp gauge wiring
Does any one have a picture of just where they wired their electrical temp gauge to? I know I should have fitted the other type, but its too late now. I have the sensor in,I have the cable from the sensor fitted to the gauge, the gauge along with an oil pressure gauge fitted discretely under the das...
