Re: Difficult bolt removal.
you can buy a socket set(Forget name) that has a sort of helical coil instead of the usual flats they are designed to remove worn studs and as you turn them the coil progressively cuts into the head of the stud/bolt and eventually turns it as it bites deeper. Think I got mine from machine mart a few...

Re: highway code
burglaries and theft, are a lot more important and they can't even attend to take detail, let alone investigate,so no chance of enforcing cyclist with no lights. Its not a new thing for instance I was a police officer for 33 years I transferred from rural station in 1975 to a main large town,On my fi...

Re: highway code
as a long ,very long time road cyclist ,Here my take on it. Over the years I have lost count of the number of times I have been forced into the verge ,by cars overtaking me against oncoming traffic on two lane roads. On five occasions I have had my right hand clipped by wing mirrors . Had numerous c...

Re: Sagged in the middle
yes les saw that as well, however as long as the car is still roadworthy,it keeps another classic on the road. But I have always doubted the practice of converting saloon to soft top, even with the conversion kit. Bit drastic to me but each to their own as they say

Re: Sagged in the middle
depends how much it has sagged, and if it is structurally solid ie will it sag further in use. You could check by supporting in the centre to see if there is any straightening ,if not ,then I suppose you could be satisfied that it is solidly welded into the new shape. I once acquired an mgb roadster ...

Re: solid brake pedal
if only one wheel is sticking it could be that side brake flexy is delaminating and acting as a non return valve, but I'm not really sure that that would pressurise the whole system to switch the light on,or hold the pedal hard, however I suppose it could eliminate all the adjustment on that side and ...

Re: solid brake pedal
you can easily check for pressure retention, which if the brake light is on,then thats what it is , just crack open one of the bleed nipples. if it squirts fluid instead of just a dribble and the brakes free up then you know where to look. M cylinder or pedal pivot.

Re: solid brake pedal
don't think siezed cylinders would leave brake lights on,since they wouldn't be pressurizing the system, the brake lights work via a pressure switch,so even if stuck cylinders as soon as you take your foot of brake the lights would go out ,so... stuck brake pedal,or M cylinder,Have you tried pulling...

Make sure there is plenty of space in front, Start it in neutral get it hot, switch off, select 1st gear, press clutch to floor, and keep it there, Hand brake off ,start up again it will start and move car forwards in gear, and in hardly a couple of turns of the wheel will brake the plate free. if it do...

Re: Bleeding newly fitted disc brakes
as soon as you stop the springs pull the cylinders in again and your back to square one, Thats why the top hat washer is fitted to standard brakes ,to maintain a minimal positive pressure to keep all of the shoes in slight contact, thereby enabling firm short pedal traveI . I know several owners who...

the pin , circled should not touch the spring, its shorting the circuit, the spring should be isolated from the peg and terminal,by the top and bottom plastic washers, just undo nut and move the connection to take pin away from spring.

I honestly think you would be better ripping the whole sill section out and fitting a complete new section, last photo shows that the inner lower section is just about non existant you can see the inner centre section (Item 1 in phils post) which is probably rotted away all allong bottom, they usually...

Re: Rattling sound under the car
have a close look at the rear shackle on the spring, there should be a good clearance between the shackle and the chassis ,as the spring softens over the years it also lenghtens and alows the shackle to hit the chassis. There will be a mark on the underside of the chassis rail if the spring is hittin...
