Re: 'George' 1965 2 Door Restoration Log

Well done with your purchase, 'George' looks like a good starter car that hopefully wont give you too many problems, your enthusiasm is incentive for people like me to catch up with various jobs i need to do to my car. 190psi compression test is high(ish), maybe your tester is over reading a little,...

Re: Very strange Starting incident...

So, my thoughts... I've read about something similar on this forum before.... When you have an air gap the energy has to build up to a point where it actually has enough energy to jump the gap. As you close the gap the system needs less energy to jump the smaller gap until we get to no gap and no en...

Thanks for those reply's, I will do as you suggest and paint separately. I like the idea of avoiding the possibility of a paint crack developing ... Water ingress ... Corrosion etc

Painting the Bonnet moulding

I need to replace my bonnet, the used one I bought is a bit rough but should be okay with a coat of paint. Do I paint it with the molding on or off ? I had stripped the new(er) bonnet down to bare metal and now have a coat of primer on it, moldings are still attached to the other bonnet !! Thanks.

Re: Indicators/Brake Lights Issue

Well done for fixing the problem and thanks for keeping us informed. It sounds like your car has been modified from standard and this makes it difficult to help with your problem. Bad earths can manifest themselves as all sorts of weird goings on but is a relatively easy fix and is one of the first ...

Do you have the original drums on the front or have you been upgraded to discs?

Re: Brakes completely jammed

The brake pedal does indeed pivot on the clutch pedal shaft and may be holding the brake pedal down enough to cause the brakes to drag, everything gets hot, fluid expands, brakes lock on with a hard peddle. Does the brake peddle try to go down when you push on the clutch?. Best solution is to remove...

I think ........ the top of your float chamber .... is what I would expect to see as part of a twin carb set up and one of those connections would supply fuel to the other carb

New brake drums have been a bit hit and miss as far as quality is concerned lately, may not be round or not running concentric .... also, check suspension bushes if you haven't already.

Re: Indicators Up Grade

I have a 1960 car with original blinking brake lights, after reading this thread I became a little concerned that maybe they were not bright enough so I had my wife drive up and down our street, lights on and randomly indicating and braking (its a quiet street !) Its bright and sunny today but I had...

Re: UJ too big for my prop?

I replaced a uj earlier this year, could not get both circlips in no matter how I tried. The new uj measured just 0.3mm bigger but its enough to cause trouble. I took the propshaft to a local drive shaft specialist who put the thing together correctly and balanced it too. I didn't think it needed ba...
