Re: Caffyns Tonbridge

Thanks Phil
I have read this through some time ago, but wondered if anyone had a bit of “local knowledge”.
Being a Sussex lad, I knew Caffyns of Hove, Brighton, Worthing and Eastbourne, but not Kent.
They were huge for many years.

Caffyns Tonbridge

Just asking... Anyone have any old photos or information regarding Caffyns garage of Tonbridge Kent? My four door Maisie was supplied new by them and registered 1st April 1965. Interestingly, Maisie has a “Webasto continental sun roof” with a plaque mentioning that it was fitted by Caffyns coach wor...

Re: Distributor Replacement Advice

Hi Donald. Might not be very much help, but here’s how I changed my dizzie to an electronic ignition one about 18months or so ago. Nothing really wrong with the old one other than the wiring and connectors looking a bit tired. Had a condenser fail not long after I bought my car “Maisie”. Changed thi...

Re: Where to purchase cars?

Depends where you are in the country. I got mine from Sussex Classics at Crawley Down. Happy to pay a bit more from a good dealer, although we thought our car was a good price. Satisfied that the guy was pretty genuine as I talked to him before I committed to purchase. Actually Stuart there was a re...

Re: Currently drinking.....

Yes Camp coffee “essence” with a hint of chicory I believe.
Not good stuff hot
But in cold milk over ice, it makes a long iced coffee, refreshing on a summers day.
Oh dear, I think I’ve gone all continental😳

Maths problem Morris + Morris =???

Taken for a bit of fun at the Horsham day of dance as part of the English weekend. IMG_3135.jpeg Nice old fella didn't mind when I asked him to pose next to Maisie :P Is was a good day with 8 Moggies from the West Sussex Morris Minor owners club. We were escorted to the display position, and stayed ...

Re: I just do not believe some people!

I had a similar experience a few years ago with a brand new car that I only had for a couple of weeks. Parked in a huge Tesco car park near where I work to get some sarnies for my lunch. I parked the car in the middle of a huge carpark with at least 20 empty spaces in all directions. I was in the st...

I just do not believe some people!

Took my wife out in Maisie today. The car needed a run so we used it to run around town and had a good few hours driving about etc. We parked up in a local car park so we could go and get some breakfast. On arrival at the multi storey car park (one of those artistic, urban type photography moments?)...

Re: MOT Exemption

Well I had Maisie MOT’d in September this year. I bought her last year from a reputable classic car dealer along with a new full MOT as part of the deal. Whilst I have no doubt that the guy who sold me the car was (and is still) trustworthy, there is always the thought that the MOT at the time was d...

Re: Fuel spill

When I first filled up Maisie after I bought her last year, I put the fuel nozzle in from the side at 90 degrees to the vertical. I watched the pump for a while and when I turned around petrol was everywhere, all over the rear of the car and the forecourt! We informed the attendant straight away (re...

One for the scrutinisers!

This is interesting, can anybody advise....? The rocker cover on my 1965 saloon needs a bit of tidying up, and I thought I would start by ordering new nameplates etc. Question 1 The pic of my rocker cover shows the “Morris” plate secured by pop rivets. I assume this is incorrect and they should be a...

Re: Rocker assembly query

New tappet adjuster screws and locknuts arrived today, and fitted this evening.
All changed as per Phil’s instructions, really easy job overall.
Maisie is all running sweetly again.
Once again, many thanks for your valuable advice Phil, which was very much appreciated.
Regards,
Mark :D

Re: Rocker assembly query

Phil, You’re a genius, this is what makes the forum so great! I’ll have another look at the rocker assembly in the morning, thanks. Pretty sure I have ordered the “plain” adjuster screws, but I won’t know until they arrive in a few days time. Always a good idea to avoid unnecessary disassembly. Appr...

Rocker assembly query

Oh dear, had a bad day with Maisie today... Just thought I would check and adjust the valve clearances before taking her out for a drive in the sun. Had adjusted the clearances some time ago and noticed that the adjuster screw and locknut threads felt stretched, and the state of both suggested they ...

Re: Disc conversion identification help

Yes I believe I read that somewhere recently, about backing the nut off slightly to give a bit of clearance, many thanks for confirming. I’m going to check the bearings for grease as part of my plan. Had the car since last October, and the guy who sold it to me said he would lube and check all level...

Disc conversion identification help

After owning the car for a while, I finally took the front wheels off to do some greasing and have a general look over.
Can anyone help by identifying the disc brake conversion in particular the calliper type and make?

Any help would be appreciated.

Another Glovebox restoration

After reading the excellent post by Mark Wilson regarding his restoration of his Gloveboxes, link below; http://www.mmoc.org.uk/Messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=67196 I was inspired to attempt his techniques on my own Gloveboxes. On my car Maisie, a previous owner had installed a wood effect piece of ha...
