Re: No brakes!!!!!!
Having had total failure myself on pattern cylinders, I'd recommend paying the extra for Lockheed.

Brakes (again)
Last November, I was unfortunate enough to have total brake failure (two front slave cylinders blew) and the entire system - master, slaves, shoes, drums 'n' all - were completely replaced. Having been replaced, from the outset it was noticeable that when braking, there was a strange pulsating 'rubb...

Re: Odometer problems
I do hope it doesn't require a new one altogther - thank you for that PDF guide as it's helped a lot - although as with anything I won't truly understand it until I have a go myself. I might therefore try and buy a cheap second-hand one from an autojumble and suss that out first before trying on the...

Odometer problems
For a fair while now, each time the odometer turns over another 1,000 miles (e.g. from 30,999.9 to 31,000.0), the numbers have been getting stuck and it has often taken a considerable distance before the numbers eventually 'click' and start moving again. When they get stuck, it is characterised by t...

Re: unleaded petrol
My understanding has always been that it's a waste of money paying for the premium petrol, because it reaps no real difference in performance with a 'normal' engine likened to one that would be in a Minor. I've read/been told several times that premium fuels will only increase performance in perform...

Re: other people's headlights
Another thought chain of mine, xpress, Night Clubs have message boards with moving, digital letters. I have been tempted to adapt one for the rear window with a selection of pre-programmed messages for the car behind. I leave the content of my imaginary message board to your imagination...... :) I'...

Re: Half Term Road Trip
Yes last year the MOT tester failed to spot a split steering rack gaiter and a completely worn out trunnion, which I happened to repair in between its retest (it had failed originally solely on a brake imbalance...). It does make you wonder. MOTs... (mechanical ones!) what a waste! mine passed hers ...

Re: Half Term Road Trip
Yes I know the feeling - mine was off the road for about 3 months whilst I caught up with all the mechanical problems and I couldn't wait to get her back on the road. Fortunately, she's run pretty much problem-free ever since apart from the fuel pump failing last year whilst overtaking on the motorw...

Re: Half Term Road Trip
Ah well, I thought I was optimistic to imagine anything might be happening.
Is your Minor an ongoing restoration or has it recently come off the road for repair work?

Half Term Road Trip
It looks like I'll be doing a good few miles during the Feb half term (w/c 21 Feb) this year! I think I'm driving up to Yorkshire to visit my grandparents for a couple of days and then back southwards to Aylesbury to visit my cousin who has recently moved there. I usually post on here when I'm going...

Re: other people's headlights
Yes I've heard several positive reviews regarding the halogen headlight conversion - apparently the improvement is really noticeable. I haven't got around to replacing my sealed beams yet, probably a good thing for me to do if (as I've been told) they demand less power as well - the early sunsets of...

Re: other people's headlights
I have this problem too - it's especially bad down country roads where it's really dark, especially on the 4x4s - perhaps because they're higher up they always seem to be directly at eye level. I don't know what they are, but the ones with the bluey tinge (xenon bulbs?) that seem to change colour sl...

Re: Snapped Manifold!
I sorted the continued exhaust leak today - I enlisted the help of a friend to tighten up the clamp whilst I made sure the downpipe was pressed snugly against the manifold. I also employed a little of the Holt's exhaust 'toothpaste' and it seems to have done the trick. Regarding the engine mountings...

Re: Snapped Manifold!
Depending where in West Sussex you are, I may be able to drop a manifold to you on the way to/from work on Mon... 8) Thank you very much for the offer but fortunately I was able to source one today. I've reassembled the exhaust, but there's a bit of blow to the front side of the join between the pi...

Re: Snapped Manifold!
I wondered why new ones don't seem to be manufactured.
Trust me to be one of a handful of people in the World who have had this happen. It has snapped just above the clamp - I think I might have overtightened the clamp the other day when the exhaust was rattling. Very annoying.

Snapped Manifold!
The downpiece of the exhaust manifold snapped tonight when I started the car - meaning it now sounds and drives like a tractor!
I trust its replacement should be a fairly straightforward job ?

Re: MOT 2011 France
As it's my first MOT I can't wait to go - going to be such a laugh I think. Myself and my friends are taking the Portsmouth-St Marlo crossing. Because we're coming from Worthing, West Sussex, I reckon we won't be doing much more than 100 miles (if that) of driving to get to the campsite! We're leavi...

Re: Bike Carrier
Yes - well, to my saloon - can't see why it wouldn't work for a traveller though, even though you do have a verticle back-end and the french windows. I have a bike rack which hitches onto the tow ball, as opposed to a bracket mounted behind the towbar as some do. The only thing I imagine you'd have ...

Re: "Morris Minor Driving Instruction"
is it odd then that i am nearly 44, passed my driving test 2 years ago in a nissan micra and have only driven that, my dad's skoda and lily b? Clarkson would have a field day with me. On the speed thing - lily is a slow starter (and of the suggested 0-60 of 22.2 seconds probably takes 15 of those t...
