I had this problem with a ribbed-case gearbox I hastily assembled, and it turned out to be a missing indent plunger for one of the selector forks; it would select reverse and a forward gear at the same time, leaving the car unable to move! :o I was able to unjam it (temporarily) by removing the oil ...

Yes, my Sept 1970 registered Traveller also has the light grey headlining and grey(ish) - although nowadays they have gone more a light brown colour, despite cleaning - rear load bay and wheelarch linings.

Perhaps he means it's currently fitted with a 1098, but he happens to have the original engine as a spare to rebuild...

I'd recommend the Maniflow system. I fitted one to my Midget-engined Traveller, and it fitted very easily and makes a pleasant note.

I suspect to get the extra 10bhp, you'll also need to fit the 12G295 cylinder head, or re-work your existing head.

Monty-4, as an aside, please could you show a close-up of the radius arm/anti-tramp bars you have fitted, and where did you obtain them from? Also, do you find they improve handling noticeably?

Yes, I've experienced that (the clips work loose), and also the front radiator grille slats vibrating with the engine idling.

At least you can see the super condition of the kidney panels, inner sills, rear floorpans, etc.; it's obviously had alot of work put into it.

Are the backs of the rear door ally panels supposed to be a grey (primer?) colour though?

In addition to the possibility of increased accident risk, bear in mind there will be alot of extra wear on the gearbox. In fact, my gearbox's first/reverse gear failed (well, went very 'clanky', due to a broken tooth) shortly after I had to drive for a period of a few miles (approx. 10) with a fail...

Sounds like maybe a carbon build-up on cyls 3&4, possibly due to valve stem oil seal failure, hence the higher compression readings.

Perhaps try some engine cleaner such as Seafoam and give it a damned good thrashing to clear out the crud...
