Can anyone save this MM Tourer?

Hello and Happy New Year to everybody! Browsing through eBay to look for spares for my MM, I found this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110621317960&_trksid=p2759.l1259 Amazingly it looks almost like a twin sister to my own (well, Anna's) 1949 MM, albeit with a nice...

Re: Air cleaner for a 1949 Tourer

Hello,

your advice about the 165 tires being too 'fat' made me discard this idea for the moment; meanwhile, I have found some NOS Michelin 155x14 in a local garage and I have bought them....sadly, they had only 3 tires! I'm looking now for 1 or 2 more Michelins.

Thank you

Re: Air cleaner for a 1949 Tourer

Hello Barry, I just replied to your other kind message on the 'wanted' board. I am really not sure if it is OK to buy electrical parts now that it occurred to me that my MM has a Negative earth electrical system instead of the normal Positive earth. What do you think, would the wiper motor work anyw...

Re: Air cleaner for a 1949 Tourer

Hello, I asked BullMotif (I have bought many parts from them and they are always very helpful) and quoted £305,15 for the set of 5 tires. It is a good price but I am looking if it would be possible to find something similar in Italy to save the shipping (£34) Do you think that 165x14 would surely be...

Re: Air cleaner for a 1949 Tourer

Hello Mike, I'll keep on looking for the cleaner, as the Auojumble would be some time from now. I looked for the tyres but the usual sources like Longstone can supply only a Nankang in that size. I would not want to sound too picky, but I wouldn't like to see the script 'Nankang' on the tires of my ...

Air cleaner for a 1949 Tourer

Dear friends, Anna's MM Tourer is on the road again (in fact locked in the garage, but at least it works) and I am beginning to look for some parts that I am missing and that the usual retailers do not have for sale. The most important would be the original MM air cleaner, as our MM now has a crudel...

Re: MM Chassis Number

http://www.stefanopasini.it/images/MM_on_the_Road-1.jpg 30 Novembre 2010: back on the road, (nearly) complete! Isn't she nice? Now she will sleep in the garage with my other cars waiting for a day with a less frigid temperature to be driven a bit longer. Thank you all (especially to Mike of ...

Re: MM Chassis Number

Hello, the stamped chassis number has been found under the carpet behind the front passenger's seat. It looks like it was stamped there (unusual place) in Italy when the car was imported here, more than 40 years ago. So the MoT officer was happy and has at last homologated our MM for road use! :D I ...

Re: MM Chassis Number

Dear friends,

thank you very much for your help. Monday I'll check in all the places that you kindly suggested and I'll see what I find. More trouble ahead.... bureaucracy in Italy is a nightmare for every classic-car enthusiast! :x

Ciao

MM Chassis Number

Dear friends, my (my wife's, actually) MM is going well now that the distributor was overhauled, the spark plugs changed and a 80 years old carburettor specialist has rebuilt once again the old SU (and many thanks, Mike, for your support!!) Unfortunately now I face a huge problem, though, as for the...

Re: Hello from Italy....

Hello, things are improving on Anna's MM and I would like to thank Mike for his terrific support. Without his help (and reassuring words!) I would be in real trouble. Not that everything is so easy, but the situation is improving. :D As you can see, the MM is being (slowly) reassembled: http://www.s...

Re: Hello from Italy....

Hello Mike, I am waiting for the BMIHT Certificate that will tell us if the car is a genuine Tourer, as I would believe, or not. If it is a conversion, it is a remarkably well done job. I'll check the wipers and see if we can refit them with the original 'clap-hand' layout. Another choice would be t...

Re: Hello from Italy....

Dear friends, Anna's MM is being carefully disassembled and, as you can see, the chromed parts have been removed to be restored (most were badly rusted.) The guys at the garage didn't find anything to worry about, and I hope that things will go on like this. [frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?sr...

Re: Hello from Italy....

Hi Mike, yes, I am refering to that long body moulding in 4 parts that start on the sides of the bonnet and crosses the handles arriving to the back of the car. Sorry to ask (the car is not here so I must check it later) but is this moulding removable to be chromed (or polished) or is it fixed, like...

Re: Hello from Italy....

Hello Rob, thank your for the info about the chrome ring, I'll look for it. For Mike; if you really need the data on the back of the speedo I can ask my people to remove the speedometer to check when they remove the dash to repaint the panels. I didn't notice one detail that can make a lot of differ...

Re: Hello from Italy....

Hello Mike, this a picture of the speedo with the numbers. If you need a different pic pls just let me know. And thank you VERY much for your exquisite guide to originality of a MM; it is exactly what I need, i.e. to have somebody who really knows the car to tell me what has to be preserved and what...

Re: Hello from Italy....

Hello, last friday the MM has been transported to my favourite body shop, where they will remove all the chrome parts (many of whom are badly pitted or rusty) to have them rechromed, checking the body and chassis. I've seen it today and a very pleasant surprise has been to find that under the dirt a...
