Re: Cold start Yes - Hot start No! Asdvice sought please.
It seems a bit odd that it runs OK and doesn't cut out on you, but if you stop it, accidentally or intentionally, it won't restart. :-? Stephen's comments are all valid, but before going down a fuel problem route, I would add a quick check to see if you actually have spark, because you haven't said ...

Re: No, its NOT a Beetle
Sadly, it's more of a commentary on the poor observation capabilities of people. Back in the Eighties I started a new job and after a short period, I drove my black two door to work. Then a few weeks later, I drove my white convertible. A few people asked me if it was the same car that I had painte...

Re: No, its NOT a Beetle
We had a multi coloured Beetle up the road and a neighbour told me there was a car just like mine "up there" I gave him a lecture on Hitler's car for the people and then the development of the minor by a refugee from Smyrna. Ironically A refugee that Hitler would probably have had murdere...

Re: Starter motor problems
Hi George according to all the reference materials I have, never having owned a Side Valve myself, is that the Lucas M35G was the starter for all Minors. (Although I noted the Workshop Manual says later cars had a M35J; but that's perhaps a pre-engaged version for the key start cars) See this fitmen...

Re: Fitting Convertible Seatbelts
Fitting front belts to the convertible is the same as the 2 dr.
There was never a requirement for rear belts in the original lifespan of the Minor.
Instructions, with drawings, are in Section R of the Workshop Manual.

You're spot on Berni. I sometimes drop into the Facebook page and some of the questions (and answers) are frightening! The trouble is, as tempting as it may be to give examples here of the utter buffoonery of people on the facebook group, this message board is open for people to see, or heaven forb...

Re: Any tips for a new member?
I strongly recommend getting a 'proper' workshop manual, i.e. a paper copy of the BMC one. It is downloadable from a few places, but not the sort of thing you want to be reading too much on a phone. I have both, I can look things up in the manual and then if I need to print of relevant pages to take...

Do you mean part 17? That's an 'Anti Rattle Sleeve' and I have no idea what 'N.S.P.' indicates in the parts list, it's only used in that one description and does not feature in the glossary of the Parts Manual.... Not Separately Provisioned' perhaps  The list for the front door gives 2 previou...

Later type is not interchangeable with earlier. Later type requires a voltage stabiliser. The early ones are a simple magnetic arrangement. The Voltage stabiliser type is a bi-metal heating coil. It's easy to tell which you have, the Moving iron flicks up into position as soon as it's powered. The B...

Re: What do you want me to tell you?
Some people are just unbelievable. Many are too thick or lazy to do anything themselves these days. They don't so any basic research themselves, they just ask facebook or a forum instead. Over on the facebook group there are several questions that seem to come around weekly, including 'What oil for ...

Re: Fitting Oil Gauge
High pressure is easy to get, just block a few oil ways..... It's very similar to your Blood Pressure, if your BP goes up just because of a little exercise, it's not good. Your heart has increased the pumping rate to increase the flow, but your body should accommodate that flow by expanding b...

Berni, One of the blades on the page you link to uses a rubber peg for the attachment to the wiper arm. All of the others are the same type of attachment (bayonet) as my Minor 1000 I think. Yes, the rubber peg type are the standard SII wipers, which Basil still has, about as effective as a child's ...

Re: After market temperature gauge
Partly depends if it's an electrical gauge or a bourdon tube gauge.
Is it a solid but bendy metal pipe to the gauge, or a singe electrical wire from the Sender.
Either should respond to a gentle tapping if it's just the needle stuck.
The electrical gauge can be more easily taken apart.
