Re: Out of round drum
I did mount it on the lathe using the centre hole, but after checking that it really was in the centre by measuring it against the stud holes. Turned it upside down and drew around the holes on to paper then took the measurements, that all seemed square (or round) as it should be. When I say a gener...

Re: Out of round drum
Finally got the drum on to a lathe today. The variance was about .35mm, easily enough to cause the brakes to grap.
It wasn't so much a dent as a general ripple right through the drum, no idea ghow it could have happened.

Re: Slight missing at idle.
My engine has done this ever since I tapped the carb spacer for better fume extraction. My guess is that the mixture is slightly affected by the varying amount of fumes drawn off the rocker cover, although this wouldn't account for engines where the rocker breather goes to the air filter. It solved ...

Re: Wont to Nickel plating
I nickel plated some forks from a 1940s racing bike (old bikes are my other obsession) a couple of years ago. Set up a tank at work, think it was nickel bromide with a bit of nickel sheet as the anode. Worked a treat, not quite a shiny as chrome but is still bright after a few years of all-weather u...

Re: Starting problem - please help
Next thing to check is whether fuel is getting from the float bowl in the carb to the jet. It may be that the valve is stuck or full of dirt. An egg cup of petrol down the mouth of the carb (air filter removed) should cause the engine to spring to life if the carb is at fault. Have you touched the t...

Small tear in headlining
Any tips on fixing a small tear, about one inch, in the headlining?
Within hours of passing the mot someone (not me, but mentioned in my user name) has ripped it.
Thanks,
Tom

Re: Out of round drum
Itsdefinitely a wobble rather than a dent. I guess it'll be quite obvious once I get it on a lathe. I only hope the distortion is evident when held by the central hole, otherwise it'll mean making up a four-bolt clamp to secure it via the wheel stud holes.
I'll keep you posted...

Well, the new drum arrived and sorted the problem.
Retest tomorrow, fingers crossed.
I'll try to post some pictures of skimming the warped drum when I do it.

I always take the a roads, much more interesting than the motor ways, and you get to go through all the towns you'd never normally see.

Re: Out of round drum
The old drum which it replaced had cracked along the outer edge and so was thrown away. Shame, as I doubt the mot man would have noticed the crack. I've no doubt that it would even up over time but as it has been noticed im going to have to sort it. All the others are original. I originally thought ...

Out of round drum
Just spent the afternoon double, double checking that this really is the problem and it is. New drum bought only a few months ago. About half a mil difference in the diameter depending where it is measured. It is a rear one. Has anyone else had this?. Had never noticed myself but was picked up as a ...

Re: Sharp clutch
I can only suggest starting at the beginning, is the free play set correctly? You should be able to press the clutch pedal down an inch and a bit (amount vary, I normally aim for 1.5'') with just one finger. If you can do this you should adjust the free play by turning the adjuster nut on the clutch...

I find that lifting them a small amount (3/4'' or so) and then lightly tapping the end with a spanner or something usually is enough to shock the followers off.

Re: Wheel Re Enameling Provider Needed
I can second the gloss paint DIY approach. Just done mine and they look great.
Did several coats with increasing amounts of thinners to get an (almost) glassy finish. Use a good brush and the paint goes on beautifully.
