Re: Mouldy convertible hood
A recent post about the subject on another site that I also frequent. It's certainly thought-provoking; see what you think:- "Hope some of you may find this useful. My XKR's hood was in a gruesome state after I had to leave the car outside all winter. Green and black mould stains -- the works. ...

Ah! Now all becomes clear! I've long wondered how van owners manage to open and close their bonnets; that explains it.

Re: Ignition Timing - Thoughts?
I was at ESM some time ago and they had a car that the owner had set the timing on "by ear". It was advanced 20 degrees! Yes, but did they say how well or otherwise it was running? Also, did they alert you to any particular dangers or potential problems as a result of running it at those ...

Ignition Timing - Thoughts?
Of course, I'm well aware of the age-old advice "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" but, being an inveterate fiddler and regarding the Moggie as much as a Meccano set for grown-ups as a means of transport, I've latterly been thinking about ignition timing settings. The car starts immediately...

Re: Tracking - too much toe in
Thanks all for the feedback. I'm no further on really... In the light of all this discussion and, if I were you, I'd simply take the car to my local tyre factor and get them to set the correct toe-in then, when your new gizmo arrives, you can practice using it in the re-assurance that you're starti...

Re: Tracking - too much toe in
"First, let's define what we mean by toe. It is the difference in the distance between the front and rear edges of the rims on one axle" Above quote from something called Northstar Racing. However, another source on the mighty interweb states that the measurement must be taken from halfway...

Re: Tracking - too much toe in
The telescopic pole suggested above is a very good method of measuring and better than string. But, by using string, you can make sure that the front wheels are pointing in the same direction as the back wheels. I can't see how that would be the case with a telescopic pole and, it seems to me, you ...

Re: Tracking - too much toe in
Sorry Culp, but I don't think much to your choice of string - something like fishing line is what you need. Also, as Simmitc points out, you do your check on the edge of the wheel rims, not the tyres.
