Re: Odd Metallic tapping noise - Sounds like a diesel

matters not if dynamo or alternator they are both driven by the same belt, take it off and start engine to see if noise goes.

Re: Odd Metallic tapping noise - Sounds like a diesel

dosent sound like pinking to me , More like tappets. Could be the alternator/dynamo. /water pump. Take fan belt off and see if it goes. Mormally/unless wildly over advanced the only time you hear pinking is on acceleration or full throttle up a hill when the engine is under heavy loading.

Re: She’s died!!

it would pay to run a feed from solenoid ign terminal and touch other end to battery to by pass ign switch and see if the starter engages switches are known to be faulty,I would do this before pulling starter out.

Re: She’s died!!

before you buy a starter or even go any further, explain how you have checked the battery ,if with a meter what were the readings. Looks like starter motor but just to be sure.

Re: Noice from clutch

not sure if you understand how the clutch works, so ......................With the car parked in neutral and the engine running with the clutch out the engine is turning the first motion shaft which is in turn, turning the gearbox internals but not the gear cogs. Once the clutch is pressed the first...

Re: Accident rate caused by Classics MOT exemption ?

I seem to remember that one of the reasons for introducing the exemption was that stats taken from M O T tests showed that there was a negligible failure rate on classics compared to moderns .Therefore there should be no change in the accident rate as a result. In my 34 years in the police starting i...

Re: Un reachable rust

use the acid and then spray waxoil into the section, its about as good a result as you can expect for long term protection,I believe you need to wash the acid off after it has converted the rust to clear the painted area since the residue effects the paint /sealer bonding.

Re: white smoke after 1275 engine build

not sure about the pcv valve . any oil blown past the rings would be burnt in the cylinders ,any passing the valve stems would just run back into the sump. The valve is there to remove any excess crankcase pressure via blow past the pistons, and to prevent oil leakage from seals since in a good engin...

Re: sills with pics, uncover the bodge

if you do decide to cut out the sections and replace with new make sure you weld a good strong bar across the lower part of the a and b post, If you don't the gap at the bottom of the frame WILL distort.
