Re: St Austell Pizza Minor
Yes, it has been there for years - and, sadly, deteriorating all the while. It looked pretty good backalong but is in a sorry state now

Re: Car not starting
Yes, unlikely I agree, unless Alice has been tinkering with the car in her sleep - or gremlins had been messing about in her garage........just mentioning it in case.......as if it were that, then there's no point chasing down the fuel system route.

Re: Car not starting
We seem to be going round in circles a bit here. The car doesn't want to start, but was running fine recently - so something has changed which is preventing it (probably something easy to rectify, once it has been identified). Alice tells us there is a bright blue spark at the end of the king lead, ...

Re: Car not starting
Hmmm.......well, I can understand you are getting fed up with Lucy but it really has to be something simple if she was starting well before and now won't. Many of the suggestions in the old thread about sparks and fuel need another look, I think. Even if the car was serviced recently by a garage, w...

I just stick with my Minor - winter and summer, although she's not often out in the wet. Though to be fair I also use my bicycle and the train as I find them both handy.

Keep it well wrapped up when not in use as it does tend to leak slightly......or I suppose you could empty it in between using it like 'Myrtles Man' does.

Re: Starter motor growling
First check the screws holding the starter together are tight - I had a growling starter once, cured by tightening up a loose screw!

Re: Ignition light / control box
If the battery is fully charged then I can't see how a fault in the control box would prevent the starter motor turning over when you try. More likely a poor connection/fault at the ignition switch or associated wiring, or even at the battery terminals/solenoid. I wouldn't rush to get a new control ...

Re: Fuel pump
I don't know Mark, but in over 35 years of Minoring, I have only twice had issues with the original SU pump - and in both cases it was simply a matter of replacing the points. If an electronic one went wrong, would it/could it be fixed so easily?

Re: Wing Mirrors
Like 'cococola' I prefer the round ones, especially on earlier cars. The only problem I have found with the ones I have used is that the chrome-plated arms do not seem to last very long and go pitted quite quickly.

Re: Fuel pump
You may well be able to rectify the pump by fiddling with the points - but, if you can't, you may find your warranty is then void. If it were me, I would talk to the supplier first. Hopefully they will replace it with no quibbles. It certainly shouldn't have given trouble so soon after purchase.

Re: Current Full Respray Cost
Yes, it depends on what needs to be done - and how well they do it. I had mine done for £5,700 - but that included stripping the whole car to bare metal, removing doors wings etc, repairing a front wing and all four door bottoms correctly and putting it back together again (not to mention fitting th...

Re: Noise from engine under labour.
I don't understand why the mechanic says it's the timing chain 'when under labour'.
Nor do I. I can't see why it would make any difference under labour or no as to rattling - was hoping someone with expert knowledge could clarify this, please.

Re: Rare Standard model on eBay
'JJ' - I agree with your sentiments, given the present-day rarity of cars that have not been 'modified' in some way, although I don't think fitting an appropriate, age-related Smiths heater would be going too far..... Many, many moons ago, I had a standard SII and retrieved a heater from a 1000 that...

If you fit a new chain, is it advisable to fit a new tensioner as well?
