Re: Trevelers sills

Despite me having added strength to mine I agree with Neil's logic - I'm intending to use mine hard over many years, but many will be treated more gently. One side on mine had been replaced previously without the strengthener and didn't appear to have suffered any ill effects. I really wouldn't fit ...

Re: Trevelers sills

When I did mine I thought the original strengtheners were a serious corrosion trap, but as I didn't want to risk it being less rigid than designed I fitted a piece of 2mm folded to an angle. I plug welded this to the rear and top of the sill step, behind the boxing plate, but shaped it to stop it si...

Re: Traveller restoration.

And there was me telling Greendefender that I wasn't sure it was a good idea to roll a Traveller without its wood.... Think he's got his answer here!

Jealous of your working conditions and your skills, looks brilliant!

Re: Traveller Rolling Tipping

Now you've got the axle off, the main concern is not distorting the B pillars. A couple of diagonal braces from the top of each pillar to the bottom of the opposite ones should keep the shape. You're moving very fast for someone who keeps playing down his abilities!

You did better than me with the angle grinder then! I posted in the Wanted section some time ago with no response, but if anyone has a spare unbutchered tie rod I'd be very interested.

Oh dear - sounds like a difficult situation for the new owner and the vendor, who we have to assume bought it in good faith in 1990.

Re: Traveller sill covers fitted

Not too clear from the photo, but I can't see any sign of the inner sill strengthener which a traveller (or convertible) should have. Not on the Moss diagram, and not unusual for them to go missing during sill replacement, but if you want to have a look Taupe's traveller resto thread shows these wel...

Re: another ringer on ebay

Steady on Trab - the car is clearly and consistently pre October 1954 (although I claim no expertise here), but as there is no clear advantage in mis-describing its age it is always possible that an honest mistake has been made. The vendor has owned it for 25 years, after all, not a quick buck merch...

Re: Another minor id for sale! When is it going to stop?

Actually got a reply from DVLA, but not overly reassuring... "Thank you for your email received on 9/11/15. Your email reference number is 3365705. Whilst I appreciate your concerns and thank you for bringing matters such as these to our attention, I am afraid that the DVLA cannot govern what i...

Re: Another minor id for sale! When is it going to stop?

I have emailed DVLA and asked if they have any way of bringing pressure on Ebay to prevent this sort of listing. I'll let you know when they respond. Don't hold your breath.....

Re: PERSONAL MINOR PLATES FROM DVLA

I lost interest in fancy number plates when I grew up...aged about 55. I had flash cars and personal plates when I was old and pompous, when I was in my fifties. Now I'm young again I have no need for either! At the risk of sending this thread off piste, though, there was a rather glamorous blonde ...

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

Steve - I was concerned that a naked Trav resting on its side is depending on the B pillar a lot more than a saloon which has a much stronger roof structure. And also, everything to the rear of the seat box is floppy (technical term) without the wood on, so if you tipped it with the rear axle still ...

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

Tipping saloons is quite common, the body is much more rigid. Steve is right to question some rollover jigs - those mounted on the rear bumper irons on a Traveller could certainly induce twist. I used a substantial timber frame bolted to the boot floor just behind the fuel tank to suspend the shell ...

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

I can't pretend to understand how this thread has gone in this direction - has something been deleted? Anyway, although this is Nam's thread, can I aim a bit of advice at Greendefender, since the subject of tipping came up on here? I've never tipped a car (made a rollover jig from scaffold tube and ...

Re: Q plate concern

So - can someone advise me on what I should do? I'm expecting to get an MOT sometime next spring for my restoration which has been SORNd for four years. I'll be fitting a 1275 Midget engine, which is of reliable provenance but has lost its ID plate, number unknown. Do I inform them of the change?

Re: Spring hanger front collapsed - repair strategy

Picture 3 is looking from the top with my trav on its side, so a bit confusing! The folded down edges to the right are the outer edges of the hanger plate, and you are looking towards the B post and sill sections. The floor internally sits on the flange at the bottom of the seat box front, with plug...

Re: Spring hanger front collapsed - repair strategy

Came across these photos and thought they might help you envisage what you need to restore. 1) Nearly as bad as yours! You can see the 2mm sheet with angled flange I replaced the front of the seat box with. The junction between the curved section and the sill step and the seat box is now fully welde...
