Re: 1275 midget gearbox and clutch operating arm

The throw out bearing must be matched to the clutch. There are three different heights of throw out bearings to accommodate the differences over the years. The only thing that stayed the same is the location and axial displacement of the throw out bearing attachment relative to the first motion shaf...

Re: 1275 midget gearbox and clutch operating arm

Yes, smooth case front plates and rib case front plates have the pivot point at different places. Gerard shows the Spritget 1098 and 1275 (10CC thru 12CE) being the same clutch arm. Wouldn't it then follow that a 1098 Minor clutch arm could be used with any rib case front plate. In other words there...

Re: 1275 midget gearbox and clutch operating arm

I understand that all ribcase gear boxes have the same pivot location. The only difference between clutch arms is mechanical or hydraulic actuation and thus different ends.

What is the condition of the rubber straps and the foam cushion? You may not need the blocks if the seat is refurbished.

Re: 1957 Traveller mystery wires

To get power connect to one of the two terminals on the fuse block that have green wires. An alternative is to connect to the green wire on the fuel gauge.

Re: 1957 Traveller mystery wires

The heater was an optional installation and is not part of the original harness and was designed to be installed post manufacture. Typical installation as done on most North America market Minors was as follows: A black wire from the green wire terminal of the fuse block and through the bulkhead fed...

Re: Heater casing refurbishment

There was a time period when the ADO16s and probably Minis had heaters that had + and - marked connections. The one used depend on how the battery was earthed so that the motors ran in the correct direction. The fan motors must have had permanent magnets for the fields or something similar making th...

Re: Brakes!

The half shaft retaining screw should be accessible if the drum was put on correctly. It can be used as a jacking screw to get the drum starting. The drum will be crooked. After working it back and forth a bit with clocking the drum around, the drum might be able to be pulled past the shoes.

Re: Parcel shelf fitting

The originals were bent down. The shelf also touches the bottom of the battery box so an up flange would need to be removed in that area.

Re: Disc brakes for lower maintenance?

Increase power gives you increased acceleration. On the road your final speed should be very similar, so unless you will start driving like a jack rabbit and close in too quickly on the vehicle in front of you or start traveling too close, the braking need can be similar to stock Minor.

Re: Disc brakes for lower maintenance?

What is the reason for all these cylinder replacements, leaks or frozen, original or new? No matter what vehicle frozen cylinders will happen. It's caused by accumulation on rust and dirt and without a decent external seal it happens more often on our cylinders. There is no need to replace the cylin...

Re: Pair of Metal Headlamp Bowls & Gaskets.

The inner bowl and the chrome ring clamp and hold the glass whether it be sealed beam or not. It's this inner bowl assembly that can be moved to aim the headlamp. The old style has screws at 3 and 9 for right and left and one at 12 for up and down. The later one uses the spring opposite two screws t...

Re: Pair of Metal Headlamp Bowls & Gaskets.

Here in the States we only had sealed beam and there was an earlier one that held the inner ring with three screws rather than two instead of the spring. None of the components were the same. The change over was early in Series III run.

Re: Carburettor AUC 888

The bowl needs to be vented to work properly. Without a vent it can build up pressure which will prevent the valve to close and the fuel will be flow out of the jet in the carb due to the pressure. There is a small vent hole. I don't recall at the moment but it is probably under the formed washer un...

Re: Overdrive -- is it possible?

The tail housing is so long and could easily include an overdrive. If one is up to some fabrication work, you could modify the third motion shaft to have third and input wheels and then a laygear but have them reversed so that the third motion shaft drives a fourth motion laygear using the third gea...

Re: Clutch judder

Actuation of the clutch does NOT move the engine forward. It will push the crankshaft forward but if anything the clutch linkage will move the engine/gearbox rearward. The throw out bearing - clutch interaction is an internal force and has no net external force effect, but the linkage does.

Re: MM 1000 Traveller

Yes, you should find two single barrel connectors (if the wire ends are bullets then wouldn't the connectors be barrels?) under the glove box. I will qualify that with I know for certain they are there for saloons and cars with doors switches, but it wouldn't make much sense to make a special front ...

Re: MM 1000 Traveller

The purple wire comes from the fuse box but not as a continous wire. There is a connection under the right glove box. There should also be a connection for the black wire. Check those and the other end. The purple as stated starts at the fuse block and the black end somewhere on the bulkhead, engine...
