Thanks Les,struggling. Minors are great and simple, but sometimes a bit frustrating.

Re: In desperation !

Why bother with the pump when you assure us the carb bowl is always full?? Try to work logically.... It's a pump Roy,but not as we know it. Someone suggested the pump not giving it all,so,checked the pump. Cutting out now eliminated. Bowl was always half full,I guess there is room for float displac...

Replace the rotor Eddie, that was my problem a while back, similar symptoms. Just thought though, yours was playing up with the electronic ignition wasn't it, and I presume had no rotor arm? So maybe it's not that! The electronic ignition systems I have used have all retained the rotor arm - they j...

Re: In desperation !

Thanks all. Will be at it again in the morning ! Took petrol pump off, cleaned the points, they were slightly pitted,it's certainly working much much better. No cutting out now,but still coughing and spluttering under load, and when pushed harder almost ready to back fire. Fitted a NOS Crimped silence...

Re: In desperation !

Looks like a fuel supply problem then; check the fuel filter on the pump is clean and that there are no obstructions in the fuel pipe. An infrared thermometer is inexpensive and would definitely help determine how hot the engine is getting and if that's a reason for concern. (Check the cylinder hea...

Re: In desperation !

Oki Doki Folks. Will follow all leads, and let you know. Thanks for the advice so far. Coils made abroad,do we make anything here anymore ! Well, symptoms persist. Even took it to a local Auto electrician,to check my work. All Ok,doing everything it should in that department. So,replaced the carb. Bo...

bmcecosse wrote:It's never the (good old) coil. If you have fitted a modern coil - well suspect ! But is it fuel or sparks? Check by pouring a little fuel down the carb next time this happens - if it fires up right away then it IS a fuel supply problem. Otherwise Ignition !

In desperation !

New coil, points condenser, heat shield kit for bowl, new fuel pipe. Starts fine, cuts out after 10 mins. Leave for 15,starts fine again, then the same again. A slightly hotter engine bay than usual, from other Minors I have owned,or just my imagination perhaps ! Did a coast to coast run with it,it was sp...

Re: Charles Ware.

I'm very sorry to hear that, his contribution to world of Morris Minors has been huge. His other contribution to preserve the city of Bath shouldn't be forgotten either. My thoughts are with Zac and his family as well as all at the MM Centre. As a Mancunian,I'm not totally up to spec with what Char...

Charles Ware.

So sorry to hear Charles Ware has passed on. He kept Morris Minors in the conscious of the British public. Bought one off him myself many years ago,a Rose Taupe Saloon. Had a good chat with him in his office, with our Daughter,Nicola,on my knee. He tried to get me to upgrade to Disc brakes,Marina Eng...
