Re: 2 door VAE 306H

Just watch out for the fit of the pistons and the top surface of the block now you have had it skimmed. On my rebuild the pistons were protruding slightly at TDC, so I had to take a skim of the crowns to get them back flush with the block. See this old thread https://www.mmoc.org.uk/Messageboard/vie...

Re: Bleeding/priming rear brake cylinders (again)

I wonder if the rear bleed nipples were left open for a good period of time, that any air bubbles in the cylinder might naturally rise and find their way out. I seems that if just pumping fresh fluid from the pedal, it will all just go straight out of the bleed nipple and leave any air in the cylind...

Pushrod Material

I was just on the point of putting my old pushrods in the scrap bin when it occurred to me they might actually be useful raw material. I have hacksawed the end off one without any trouble and the steel turns to a superb surface finish as it is, then I heated it up to cherry red and quenched it and i...

Re: white smoke after 1275 engine build

Have you checked inside the PCV valve and hoses to see if they are really oily ?
If they are, then you may be on to something, if not then you can probably discount that idea.

I am curious to know why your new alloy timing cover seal failed as well, that is a bit disappointing for you.

Re: white smoke after 1275 engine build

Not on the Morris but............ When I see a load of white oily smelling smoke from the exhaust of my BSA Gold Star, it means that with standing for months the oil has got past the non return valve and collected in the crankcase, it must slosh around and get back up the bore past the rings on the ...

Have you got the little top hat bracket correctly placed ?
This was discussed a few years ago in this thread.

Re: Heater Issues

My heater was worse than useless, so I took both hoses of the engine end connections and stuck the garden hose in one of them whilst the other was in a bucket. I was amazed at how much brown sludge came out, i kept reversing the water flow though it until it ran clean, the reconnected it. My heater ...

Re: Do I need to notify insurance when car is away for repair?

Also

When renewing your policy, dont forget to ask for an increase in the agreed value if you have done a lot of work on the car since last time.
I have just done this with mine since I installed a rebuilt engine and gearbox, and the premium was no more expensive.

Re: Introducing Elsie May

Yes I did wonder about how much room these take up in the back of the bucket, so I sent a question to one of the sellers on ebay asking for dimensions. He did not have any measurements but assures me they will fit any application of 7" headlamps, these are the finned type LED lamps that I have ...

Re: Introducing Elsie May

Mike That is a lovely looking traveller you have there. Just wondering about those headlamp units, they look to be decent quality and when looking online I see they do a kit with either Halogen or LED bulbs. I am tempted to fit a set of LED ones on my traveller but wondered which you are going for a...

Re: Distributor drive removal tool.

Many years ago when I was a teenager, I used small round file on many occasions to pull the distributor drive out of my Mini engine. It was really easy you just shove it an and give it a twist and it locks into the threads perfectly. Then one day I was doing it, and half way out the shaft slipped of...

Definitely take of the covers otherwise you will not get the protection where you need it. Mine had been done by squirting it through some holes in the sill covers and it just covered some very local areas with virtually none getting into the hollow sections inside. Luckily mine had not started to r...

Re: Oil Gauge

I would forget the Tee adaptor and modify the oil pipe banjo bolt just near it assuming you have suitable drills and taps. This thread from last year shows how to do it, I ditched the adaptor and did mine like this and it is much easier to assemble. https://www.mmoc.org.uk/Messageboard/viewtopic.php...

56 to 59's are now being called in West Yorkshire and maybe the whole of the UK. Go on the NHS website and put you details in, we did last week and myself 64 and my wife 58 both got the appointments on the same date and time. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination...

Just in case there are still any doubters, here is the latest breather canister one of our members sent me for the modification. It looked fine from the outside and there was no clue as to how bad it had got. Air was still passing through it, but crucially it was not being filtered in any way, so al...

That earth connection circled in red, looks to be connected to the battery hold down hook, not exactly the best point for a good earth.
