Sagged in the middle
So my minor has sagged a bit in the middle and I’ve only realised when I’ve come to hang the doors. When I cut the roof off and long before I replaced the sills, floor etc, I braced the entire car to prevent this, but it’s happened anyway. The doors are not original ones as they were very rotten, so...

Re: Jammed gearbox
So the new packing shims have arrived.
But what are they actually for? I understand what they do but I struggle to think why the need to be there.

Re: Jammed gearbox
That was thinking, loosening off a shaft would allow me to get it on.

Re: Jammed gearbox
I’ve ordered 1 of each. Once I get them I’ll bounce check the thickness with the remnants of the original one.
Is there a particular knack to getting the selector to engage with the selector rods?

Re: Jammed gearbox
It’s a bearing packing shim from the output shaft, within the gearbox extension (ribbed gearbox)
So I’ve ordered a new one and I’ll fit it on Friday. I just need to figure out the technique to re-engage the control lever with the shifter rod selectors

Re: Jammed gearbox
It was amongst the levers for selecting the gears. I am pretty sure it’s part 10G144 from the first motion shaft.

Well I found what it was that was jamming the gearbox, but what is it?

Re: Jammed gearbox
I’ll have a look in the covers tomorrow and see if any thing has fouled up. Hopefully it’s just a simple fix as the gearbox worked perfectly fine before I took it out the car.

Re: Jammed gearbox
It’s been stood on either end and on any side, particularly during a house move at the beginning of the year. In hindsight, I should on d of checked that it was free before i bolted it to the engine and manhandled it back into the car. Guess I’ll spend Sunday taking it out of the car and checking wh...

Jammed gearbox
So I’ve got around to putting the gearbox and engine back in the car. I’ve come to put the prop shaft back on and i discover that the gearbox has seized/jammed. When I took it out the car, it worked and and all I’ve done to it is to replace the scroll seal in the bell housing for a modified seal ver...

Convertible screen top strip
So I’ve converted my saloon to a semi convertible (not roof at all) and in doing so, I’ve used the top of the windscreen from a long dead convertible. Along the back edge of the top rail, there was a strip of steel that folded over the seam and was screwed along the top. I removed this as it was ver...

Convertible with a tonneau - minor matters jan/feb 21
Just enjoying the most recent edition of minor matters and I’ve seen the convertible with a tonneau cover. Does anyone know any more about these tonneau covers? I ask as I am going to make one for my roof off minor and having seen the picture of the tonneau, I nearly spat my tea out all over the pla...

Re: steering rack set up
That’s what I thought too. I consulted the workshop manual and it appears I have to count teeth on the rack and centre number 12 in the pinions hole. I’ve done that and whilst it’s not perfect by any stretch, it’s better than it was. As the car is just being pushed in and out of the garage, I’ll lea...

Re: steering rack set up
I must also add, if I pull the rack all the way out on the drivers side, I have a length of 12.6cm and halving it gives 6.3cm on the drivers side 5cm on the passengers side, so which end do I rely on the rack being centred?

Re: steering rack set up
Right, slight issue. So if I pull the rack so it’s fully extended on the passenger side, it comes to 12.6cm , so logically if I half that to 6.3cm I’ll end up with 6.3cm at the drivers side, thus the rack is centred. But I don’t..... I get 6.3cm on the passenger side and 5.45cm on the drivers side. ...

steering rack set up
Whilst i am waiting for the sprouts to finish boiling, I thought I would ask a question that has been vexing me for some time. I have totally disassembled, cleaned and reassembled the steering rack (as well as stripping and cleaning of the front suspension) and I am not having issues setting up the ...
