Re: 2 types of chrome grilles?

I've also found that the general profile can be different too. I have a re-chromed grille that will only fit properly in 1 front panel (I have 4).
I have 1 grille that has holes in the top through which the top chrome locates and the remainder being slots, whilst the others are all slots.

Re: where to place mirros

Shoulder check? Shouldn't your face be pointing ahead whilst driving? Fit decent mirrors. I can't believe that you've made that comment. How often do vehicles get 'lost' in your blind spot even with the best mirrors. A shoulder check should be used every time you make a change of direction - just a...

Re: where to place mirros

Why fit exterior mirrors, just make sure you do a shoulder check before any change of direction - in fact this should be the norm whether mirrors fitted or not.

Re: Series MM Rear Wings

I purchased an early wing for my MM series which had a completely different profile to any other wing I had - no idea why. I didn't use it despite it being in mint condition. I really don't think accuracy was something that was understood when these cars were current :D[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbi...

My advice is to always buy the best condition car with the mods you'd like in the first place - you save loads in the long term.
I should follow my own advice though :D

Re: mk2 escort axle wheels limitations

The blue one in my pics is on 8 x 13's at front hence my comment :D Rears are 8 1/2 x 15. Front clip is Vauxhall Chevette which is narrower than a Minor's track so they don't stick out very much (they will on a Minor) and rear is S type jag. Pics of my minors are here: http://morrisminorowners.co.uk...

Re: Sunvisor morris or not?

Be aware that if you have to drill new holes for passenger side visor, that they are not in line. Check the original visor holes for correct orientation. How do I know - fitted visors to my recently finished car (never bothered with visors before this) and the 2 passenger side holes had been drilled...

Re: mk2 escort axle wheels limitations

You'll need to extend /modify front and rear arches to fit wheels of that width. 8's are in reality a bit wide on the front as you'll discover in the wet :)

Re: MM headlights

They are mm headlight rims fitted with later sealed beam units. You can fit any 5 3/4 inch headlight unit with or without sidelight (including halogen) into these rims using w clips (same as old motorbikes use). The use of modern units greatly enhances the use of the car at night - originals were li...

Plenty info around on the net. Best forum for this type of advice is here: http://morrisminorowners.co.uk/index.php Fiat engine is a bit long in the tooth these days with not the best spares availability. There are other options available to you these days. Lowlight metal work isn't cheap either - f...

Body number should be on a small oblong plate at top right hand side of bulkhead as you are looking to rear of car. it's held on with 2 small screws.

Re: just got this!

I'd have thought an MM series without the moulding under the rear window would be at the latest the latter half of 1950. I've seen late 1950 models with the moulding. Mine is July 1950 and without.
I wouldn't worry too much about it though, so long as you get a V5C.

It would be nice however to encourage more interest from the North of England, Scotland and Ireland if the Nationals were held further North. Another year I won't be going - 420 miles.

Re: Series 2 windscreen

Laminated glass cracks quite easily if twisted or knocked, hence I went for toughened. For the same reason, car door glass is toughened as laminated can crack when slamming doors. Cost of getting glass made wasn't as expensive as you'd think - but only for flat glass. There are some specialists that...

Re: Series 2 windscreen

I got all my glass cut then toughened (and marked as toughened) by my mate in the know - he was a double glazing fitter and got them made by his supplier. They are 6mm toughened - tinted on sides and clear on front. I didn't want to risk laminated as I was sure they'd crack in the fitting process. I...
