Re: Rolling Road advice

This forum always seems to end up degenerating and pooh-poohing ideas, and it is usually the same culprits who put their six pence worth in on products they neither own or have tested. I'm going to have my rant because I have way better things to do than play some sort of moronic game of mine's bett...

Re: Rolling Road advice

I have a 123 ignition set to 30 degrees all in ( curve 7) dead easy to change via a switch underneath. The lambda element is a Stack unit which uses a Bosch oxygen sensor which is located south of the LCB. Engine is 1380, 266 cam HIF44 with stage 3 head and free flowing exhaust (rc 40 equiv by Manif...

Re: Rolling Road advice

Hi my solution to a rolling road was to get a mappable distributor,Wide band Air/Fuel gauge and take the advice of A C Dodd on needle for equivalent engine spec. Needless to say his advice is spot on. The great advantage of doing this is that I have a permanent "rolling road" mixture read ...

Re: SW5/Minispares equivalent, pros & cons?

For what it's worth George I am very pleased with the 266 as I have had a chance to put some more miles on the new engine. For me the 276 enters the torque band higher up so was a non starter. Ask yourself which rev band you spend most of your time in. 266 comes into power band at about 1200 rpm so ...

Re: 1.3 minor

Hi, if it's any help I used a right angled silicone hose of the right diameter. First you cut the outlet of the rad down to about 25mm which will give an inlet pointing to the back of the engine bay which is at right angles to the original thermostat housing. Obtain the right diameter hose from ebay...

Re: SW5/Minispares equivalent, pros & cons?

Oh and before anybody says an MG Metro cam is the same as a 266 it is not, the 266 is optimised from this basic design which is very good. Valve opening and closing timings do not give the whole picture of cam performance.

Re: SW5/Minispares equivalent, pros & cons?

Hi, I have just built a 1380 MED engine and went for the 266 which on first drive only last night is very impressive in terms of torque even at running in taking it easy pace. I used to have an SW5 but could not get rid of it fast enough as it makes the engine VERY tappetty. The reason for this is t...

Re: Windscreen leak

Since I have used Silicon grease applied to both the frame and seal I have never had a Morris Windscreen leak and I have done a few. You can get hold of it from plumbers merchants as it is used to ease in waste fittings. It also has the advantage of creeping into the seam and preventing corrosion. I...

Re: water temp gauge

It is possible to make a stabiliser for less than £1 with the correct component from a well known supplier of electrical gizmos that begins with M and ends with N .It is called a Zennor diode and is very reliable. I looked for an alternative after a false gauge reading left me stranded in the middle...

Re: Threads Locked

I have just returned from a long absence from this forum and frankly am shocked at the way a great leading light in the Morris Minor scene has been treated. We all need advice from time to time from professionals and if this is not available for whatever reason many owners/cars will suffer as a resu...

Con rods

Hi all, Has anybody fitted 1275 A+ rods to a Marina crank? If so is there any machining involved or are they a straight swap? I ask as they are lighter and more of a precision part and I have a set. Cheers, Andy.

Re: Stainless braided hose

Hi George, I used Silicon hose for my heater hoses on the grounds of durability and appearance. I obtained these from a company called Hyphose in Southampton who specialise in hydraulics. They will almost certainly carry the kind you are looking for or have some suggestions, hope this is of help, An...

Re: Citroen Xantia

Thanks for that Martin F, we have just been over to France and the car did good work in snow of 6" + while others were not coping so well. Obviously the genius of the suspension design shows through at times like that. I shall do the lhm at the interval you recommend. Cheers, Andy.

Thanks for that Les. We should be careful what we wish for, I for one do not want newer cars regarded as "classics" because if there are too many around that don't fall in line in terms of emissions the government is likely to legislate against all cars that are over a certain age. We curr...

I find Maguires "NXT 2" to be the best, it has a very deep long lasting shine and I have long term tested it on my modern. It makes water bead the longest of any wax I have ever used.

By having the two sets of brakes fitted to the same car with the same mods before and after I am prepared to endorse discs as I drove the two sets two days apart that is a reasonably effective way of proving the argument.Naturally not everybody will agree with my point of view no doubt which is thei...
