Re: WORRYING EMISSIONS

It happens to modern cars aswell, water pours out of the exhaust, it's called the warm-up cycle. Problems start when the cycle is not followed through on a regular basis (and this doesn't mean OAPs visiting the bog hourly  ). All you need to do is make sure the car gets a run after it's starte...

I can't contribute any technical advice here, but - this is going to be one hell of a car when it's done! :D

Good luck!

Re: Bench Seats.

We have used an All agro (Allegro) bench seat in a pickup. I would imagine it would be harder to find an Allegro now than actually fit it.  I have owned 2 (still have one) and no, you ain't gonna find a scrap Allegro (if you do let me know!) Trim parts are incredibly hard to come ...

Re: Pricing of parts

Sounds fine to me... they have a right to ask for your member no. if this is what they are giving discounts for. And £6 carriage for an exhaust is nothing!

Did the advertised price include carriage? If so then you have a legitimate complaint.

Re: keep running

and the points and condensor issues? If it ain't broke don't fix it... rub the points down to the nubs and the condensor will run for many more years. As others have said, the running on will be bad timing (or maybe you need a decoke?) as it happened to an engine I had which ran on for about 10 sec...

Re: 'Coughing' at high speed

Turns out it was running too weak as I richened it and have had no trouble since. Will check plugs after its done a few miles like this.

May be best to err on the side of rich.

Re: Ford flathead V8 in Minor???

There would be no point in that mod (Ford), and where did you find one of those engines?

You could tune a 1275 to give much better performance than an old clunker sidevalve v-8, which is even older than the earliest Minors.

Even the early bakelite knobs are worth a small fortune now, so you might want to get them aswell.

Re: FUEL PUMP - WHERE CAN I GET ONE?

You need to take the black plastic end cap off the pump and you will see some electrical gubbins - take some coarse paper, put it between the points and rub it so it cleans the surfaces.

Seriously - I doubt you need to buy a new pump.

Re: 'Coughing' at high speed

Just get rid of any filter - not necessary...... What colour are the spark plugs? May be dangerously weak........ Last time I checked they were a grey-white and yes, the mixture was noticably weak then. But I adjusted the jet and it ran better with more power.... but not checked the plug colour sin...

Re: M20 Crash

Why, however, would this be a right off??? From what I can see, it needs new front wings, bonnet, and front bumper, and looks like a new boot lid. Unfortunately it's not as simple as that. Even slight distortion could throw the wheels off balance, seams could have split and hairline cracks opened u...

Re: Smiths Speedo

Don't know the TPM figure but gold coloured one is correct for 948, think they read to 80MPH.

Of more interest is this scrapped traveller, if you took the speedo because it was a splitscreen - there are very few splitscreen travellers about.

Re: 'Coughing' at high speed

OK, thanks. Deffo not fuel problem as there is one of those glass filter things fitted, and it's flowing freely.

Reading about dodgy condensors makes me think... as do the HT leads.

Re: FUEL PUMP - WHERE CAN I GET ON?

Try cleaning up the old one first (start with the contacts), as new ones are not as good as the originals, even if they are in the same state as yours.

Also check the connecting wires are nice and bright, hopefully save you the cost of a new pump.

Indicator problems

For no apparent reason, the RH signals have stopped flashing (and so has the tell-tale bulb, but it still makes the ticking noise, though much faster), but the LH signals and tell-tale work as they should. I should also say the car has hazards fitted which have also packed up. I have checked earth c...
