Re: Crossply to radials - What size? (1954 4 door splitscreen)

You can still get cross ply 500 / 520-14 I thing Club spares were advertising them in the latest Minor Matters. I changed from 155 to 145 last year and I think they are closer to the crossply in look and feel. Others have different perceptions and experiences. they also fit better in the boot area

Re: Steering column felt bushes

If the felt bushes have shrunk / dried out drizzling a little light oil down into them may help. a) it helps lubrication and b) the felt will expand and stop creaking. Now how to stop the creaking from the column against the parcel shelf - it is a 948 smaller shelf so abuts the column rather than pa...

Re: Split-screen chrome surround on eBay??

I know it has been some time since I first mooted the subject of reproduction of these clips and we have supplied a trial set to two people (unchromed) This seemed to go well albeit that one lower clip was damaged on fitting a particularly difficult surround / rubber in Malta. Ray - Uttlesford's 92 ...

Woolies stuff is superb. I was very nervous about renovating my Series II (Series II in style) leather seats but the instructions and the products were very good and I was pleased with the result. Rear seat half done and front seat before and after

Re: Drivers Side Glove Box

Nope they were open within a frame. You can get a door usually from a left hand drive car or someone who was making them out of glass fibre many moons ago, but both are as rare as hens teeth.

Nuffield Metal Products Plate NMP

As we had used all we made - over 400 and I am still getting requests for the plates from far flung places, we have decided to press some more. Test pressed some aluminium blanks today and the pictures speak for themselves. The mould was showing some strain with mild steel and some of the definition...

As promised some photos of Michaela Burkenshaw's lovely early Series II called Henry (the eighth minor she has owned). They show the correct blue engine matched from paint from behind the Dynamo / starter motor.

Re: Engine Paint Colour

One of my friends had this colour on her engine and had the paint matched to a pristine patch found when she took the dynamo out. It looks stunning and is great at rallies when people walk past and comment loudly that that is not the original colour. I will try and find a picture.

Re: 1960/61 convertible front side lights

Not sure you can if they are the Lucas L 489 sidelights which is why many series3 cars had aftermarket indicator lights fitted in a variety of places both front and rear. You could of course put the much later front and rear cluster lights on or use the transitional and only slightly larger L 488 wh...

Re: Split-screen chrome surround on eBay??

Today we popped over to Colin's with Ray and Tony to trial fit the re-made Series MM / Series II windscreen joining clips. They look very good and fit really well.

Next steps are to remake the male tool in steel to sharpen up the bends and folds and get the trial set chromed. Watch this space!

Re: Split-screen chrome surround on eBay??

First untrimmed attempt with brass, still needed annealing but the shape, definition and size are favourably comparable with the original donor pair. there is however none of the metal distortion we were finding with steel. Ray is still not satisfied and when he is we will be offering them up to the...

Re: Split-screen chrome surround on eBay??

An update on the remanufactured screen clips. We have made initial moulds and tried pressings with tin plate. They have come out fairly well but the steel distorts on the crease. The originals seem to be made of brass and. We have ordered some brass plate to try pressing. The images show an original...

Re: Gan Canny pet

We are all going blind trying to work this one out....Suggested number may be KXN 258 F but this was not issued with an F suffix. Or KKN 250 F -not issued on an F but was issued on an E January 1967. CKN 250 F not issued on an F. CXN likewise.

Any more ?

Re: trafficator switch/steering wheel

Absolutely correct and I have just checked in Ray Newell's Book. However we have a later 1960 blue 2 door in the branch with the earlier type switch / horn control - light on indicator body not on speedo- looks original too! Possibly a ‘what is in the parts bin on the day, model?

Re: trafficator switch/steering wheel

If a 1960 it would have had the earlier type indicator / horn push switch, with the green bulb in the switch body. When I bought my 1957 in 1978, trafficators and horn worked off the original switch and aftermarket indicators were operated by a second stalk from a later Minor on the other side. It n...
