Re: Steves Morris Traveller 1970

Is it me, or is there some confusion here between hinge pillar cover and B pillar repair? Yes i think it was just a general link to the welding part of his thread. Luckily my b pillar is good. Sorry, my mistake, I thought reference to the crappy pillar panel was for the B-post, but there are lots o...

Re: Steves Morris Traveller 1970

Those pillar bottom sections can be used on the opposite side as the rear part of the pillar. Makes fabricating the front (you can use the correct side as a starting point for that) easier.

If you didn't see it already here is my resto thread: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=48882 By far and away the very best thread of all is David Miles pick up restoration. It is in three parts and well worth taking the time to go through. What makes it so special is David's frank and...

Re: New member with moggie

Good move! Also, it is always useful to have a parts car if you are doing a restoration, so the more bits that come with the shell the better!

Enjoy the project and keep us posted!

Re: New member with moggie

Seriously I would not consider this to be a sensible restoration proposition. At the very least I would obtain a better shell to start with. It would not make any economic sense whatsoever to try and fix that one when there are so many better ones being scrapped!

I highly recommend the flashing bulbs for trafficators. I have them in mine and it makes them much more visible for other road users.

Re: Traveller Chassis woodwork/restoration

Agree with both comments above. The key to painting is preparing the steel. No matter how good the paint is, it will simply not be able to protect against corrosion if there is poor adhesion. Whichever method you use to clean off all the old paint, and absolutely all traces of rust, the surface must...

Re: Traveller Chassis woodwork/restoration

There is absolutely no problem doing just the woodwork at this stage. Looking at your pictures you have a basically very original sound car, with the usual corrosion spots. Just follow the guide in the book and all will be well. Everything, apart from where the wood is connected to the body can be d...

Re: The rebuild of Frankie Jordan (70's Trav)

My advice is to start with the door gaps, then the door gaps and finally the door gaps! Seriously though, follow the advice given so far and put a temporary brace in the door apertures before doing the sills. Then when you do the door hinge pillar you need to be absolutely fastidious about being abl...

Re: Air Cleaner Maintenance

No need to replace it! It is very much part of the charm of the almost extinct 803 engine. If it is the standard UK filter (horizontal up above the engine) then it is not an oil bath and does not need to come apart. You can wash it in petrol, let it dry and re-oil it with a bit of engine oil. In nor...

Ok fair point. But why the need to weld them? All the gaps can be achieved just the same with bolts.

Re: 1960 4 Door Saloon

Went to see the car yesterday. Most of chassis work completed. Rear spring hangers and c posts welded. Next couple of weeks should see the wings on. I've gone for the option of having the wings welded on to get a very good alignment. Cheers, Luke Sounds like a bit of wool pulling going on there! So...

Re: Fuel Pump

Absolutely no problem at all to run the AUA66.

By the way, if there are any fuel leaks at the carb, it will be due to holes in the float, sticking float chamber valve (dirt), float bowl or jet seals, not the pump.

Re: newby needs advice

Agree entirely with the above. I find the ESM website very nice to use for parts and have had excellent service from them. But I also use the other suppliers mentioned too, and more besides. You have a choice of window rubbers for the outer seal. I used the original type on my Series II and the rubb...
