Afternoon.
Has anyone ever replaced a rear wheel bearing on a Nissan Micra? it's a K12 diesel, from 2005, failed MoT today.

Re: Front side/indicator light base corrosion
Can anyone confirm if there's meant to be a spring under the sidelight bulb? There is under the indicator bulb, but the sidelight is so rusted it's difficult to tell?

Re: Front side/indicator light base corrosion
Can't remember which, but one of the big 4 suppliers. All the seals were replaced at the same time, the rubber boot over the cable at the back seems intact, and the lens units are intact. I think they are just poor. The originals lasted over 30yrs before replacement, and to be fair, had almost ruste...

Front side/indicator light base corrosion
20170503_094228.jpg Two years old. Fortunately, both lights were still working, but for how much longer? I must have gone through 3 or four of these in the last decade. I'm fed up of replacing them, or every so often having to dig out the bulb & clean it up to get it working again. Does anyone ...

Re: Front suspension top links
Ok last question (for now!)
Tie - rods. How far up should they be done? I guess that if they are not adjusted evenly then you get uneven tyre wear?

Re: Front suspension top links
I think I see what you mean. So with the kingpin disconnected from the top trunnion, damper arm and steering arm, and with the bottom trunnion on and the front and rear lower arms assembled in place, the trunnion should move freely on the trunnion pin?

Re: Front suspension top links
When you say "rotate about the trunnion pin ", do you mean that the trunnion should turn freely on the kingpin, or do you mean that the pivot pin inside the trunnion should be able to rotate?

Re: Front suspension top links
Ok thanks.
Is there a torque setting, or is it just "good and tight"?

Front suspension top links
Evening. I'm replacing the bushes in the top links with poly bushes, as the original rubber ones date from 1991, and look a bit shot. (Actually, on dismantling, it turns out the top bushes are poly-dunno when they got put in, wasn't me guv, when I rebuilt the front suspension with new kingpins, trun...

Re: Play in the front wheel
Ok. So if I understand you correctly, Phil, I shouldn't worry too much about a little play on the n/s, but perhaps ought to back the hub nut off slightly on the o/s?

Re: Play in the front wheel
I've got Ford based discs, I believe the hubs are taper bearings, but can't remember. What got me asking is that there's no discernible play on the o/s.

Re: Play in the front wheel
Thanks for that.
Should have mentioned it has discs, and I did it with the car raised. I presume the same principle applies with discs?

Play in the front wheel
I have a little play when I try to twist the front n/s wheel from top to bottom. Is this a worn trunnion, worn wheel bearing (unlikely as it's only 2yrs old), or loose hub nut?

Re: Track rod ends
Thanks both. It's a Nyloc, looks in good nick. I have to do the dust seal on the other side, then I'll get the tracking checked.

Track rod ends
I've just replaced the rubber dust seal on the n/s track rod end. Is there a torque setting for the nut on the underside of the taper pin, or do you just do it up good and tight?
Also, although I've not moved the track rod end itself, should I get the tracking checked?

25 year members badge
Just got my 25yr membership pin badge. Very nice too, but has any thought been given to making these available in a larger size, suitable for a grille?

Re: Ride height.
Ok, a quick measurement from outer fulcrum to wheel rim reveals both sides to be within a couple of mm of each other ~130mm. There must be some difference in the tyres. Also, I guess, with one weak rear spring, the weight distribution is now uneven, so that tyre load, and therefore tyre compression,...

Re: Ride height.
Tried a little experiment this evening. I jacked up the rear n/s, under the rear spring hanger at the back, by 20mm (the difference between the height of the two rear spring hangers, see post above). I then measured the front inner & outer fulcrum heights. Both inners were the same height, the o...

Re: Ride height.
Ok, just checked both front tyre pressures, they are the same. Re-measured the fulcrum height differences, they are now 50mm n/s, 60mm o/s. Also checked the rear spring hanger heights, the n/s rear hanger lower bolt is 20mm lower than the o/s, so there may be something in the weak rear spring theory...
