Thank you all

Dear all,
It's the end of another year and so may I thank both those who keep this site running and all those many others who both ask questions and answer them? It's a continuing joy and education.
Happy New Year to you all, MikeN.

Re: RADIATOR MUFFLER

Just dug out my radiator blanks which I've used for many years (but not much this year!) and I hope they may encourage our our original questioner, Mr djk3816. Unlike Edward 1949 and Geoberni I'm certain blanks are useful, definitely at low temperatures and especially if you're using your heater (as...

If you like An-2s then see here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgOPpf3Impw Lovely inertia starter! And it's a bit like a Morris; see the pipes for de-steaming the windscreen and the rain dripping in at about 6 minutes! Love the light on a stick over the instruments at the RHD side. (For map reading...

Re: Bi-plane

That Stearman is a regular around here in NW Hampshire and we're fairly sure its based at Thruxton. If you're interested in bi-planes look out for an occasional visitor, a bright yellow Stagger Wing, the only retractable undercarriage bi-plane I've ever seen. See here for a pair of landing Stearman ...

Re: Oil filter

Phil,
Is that the early "by-pass" style of filter? If so, do we need to make the questioner aware of the restrictor orifice thingy that needs to be fitted that limits the oil flow?

Re: Oil filter

See here https://www.ebay.co.uk/c/3018138953 which offers oil filter elements for this AC body and says they fit a Morris Minor. So (with luck) it should be a goer.

Measuring the size of the Earth!

What ho, chums! Our local Primary School has set the above task for its 4 to 11 years olds and I've just had a crack and got within 0.0025% of the real value! It uses a an updated version of Eratosthenes' method back in about 200 B.C. which you will remember uses measurement of shadows at the summer...

Re: de-greaser

Regarding paraffin, just as good and very much cheaper is central heating oil currently at about 26p a litre (for a 1000 litre delivery! Paraffin seems to be about £2 per litre.) Mind you, it needs a baked bean can on a stick to get it out of my tank but its worth it and works perfectly. Regards fro...

Re: Mystery Wheel cylinder adjuster part

Only with trepidation do I dispute with m'learned friend Phil but I suspect those bits of bent metal went underneath the adjusters so they were raised slightly rather than between the cylinder and the adjuster. They've the folds at their ends to keep them in place. DON'T THROW THEM AWAY YET! Do as P...

Re: Removing the camshaft nut

I bought the engine that's in my Trav from Roy; an 800 mile round trip! I'm glad I met him. A man of great Minor experience and of strong opinions that I didn't always agree with but which I always, always listened to. No question on this site ever went without an answer from Roy! I still miss, MikeN.

Magnetic dipstick

Dear all, Had a real "Brian Wave" recently and magnetised the steel dipstick in my brand new Lidl lawnmower, and after only an hour's running time see below for the metal that I wiped off the tip of the dipstick. More than I expected! I magnetized the stick by stroking it several times one...

Re: Traveller rear luggage cover

Some years ago (4-7?) there was an article in "Minor Matters" which described and illustrated just such a device. Aa I remember it, it consisted of a domestic window roller blind secured at the back of the rear seats which could be drawn backward towards the rear doors and what would have ...

Re: Automatic choke/twin choke

In view of your problems, this afternoon I watched my cold start closely. My '63 Traveller had cold soaked to 3C in the garage; outside in the sun it was 5C. I pushed it out backwards out of the garage and started on full choke and after manoeuvring in the yard and after 30 seconds running time I'm ...

Kevin, If you're still concerned about your pump pressure a cheap way of testing it is to measure the height to which your pump can raise fuel when it stops ticking. A length of clear plastic hose from a pet store (mine came from "Pests at Home" in Andover for a few pence per metre) heated...

Re: Different reading on battery condition gague

Referring to Yellowpinky's request above on modern battery chargers, I see that my local Lidl has back for sale under it's label "Ultimate Speed" their own "floating" charger for £13.99. I've used one of these for 2-3 years without trouble.

I look forward to following your adventure in diffs, Alan! Just a thought; long ago and far away I was helped in adjusting a spiral bevel axle on a Morris 10 (of about 1935) by some old fitters. (One had started as an career in the RAF, that is the Royal Aircraft Factory and pre the Royal Air Force!...
