Re: Temperature sensor
Unfortunately things haven't gone well with the planned engine start. I filled the system with coolant only to find a puddle of coolant under the engine the next day. This engine has had a complete rebuild with no expense spared. It seems that the coolant has seeped up through the cylinder head stud...

Re: Temperature sensor
"I would advise that you do not fit the plugs until you have good oil pressure plus 30 seconds to ensure that oil is fully around the engine especially before the crankshaft bearings become loaded." Thanks for the advise Phil, I did this and got good oil pressure. I have fitted a combined...

Re: Temperature sensor
Well spotted guys. :) Yes that is the wrong thermostat housing. It was sold to me by Moss as the correct part for a Minor and as Phil correctly pointed out, the angle of the outlet is wrong for a Minor. Since this photo was taken I have refurbished the original domed part and re-installed it. ( see ...

Re: Temperature sensor
If you haven't fitted a heater then you could do what I did which is to machine up an adaptor which attaches to the cylinder head where the heater tap would normally go. You should have a blanking plate in this location if no heater is fitted. This will give you the worst case temperature which is a...

Re: Rear brakes.
Phil you were correct. The issue proved to be the wheel cylinder tapped hole is not perpendicular to the mating face. I lightly tightened the banjo fitting without the copper washers ( they are copper by the way) and noticed there was a gap on one side. I confirmed it was not the banjo mating faces ...

Re: Rear brakes.
Thanks for the reply Phil. I assumed the new wheel cylinder was correctly machined and that the banjo bolt had parallel surfaces but you are right, these are likely causes of leaking. I'll check the washers tonight with a magnet.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Rear brakes.
I have the same issue where brake fluid is leaking from the Banjo bolt washer. I still haven't found the root cause. I have new washers, new wheel cylinders but have re-used the bolt that connects the banjo / bleed fitting to the cylinder/ brake tube. Having worked as a Brakes design Engineer for a ...

Re: Front Wheel Bearing Play
Success. The play was reduced by the amount of material that I removed and left approximately 1/1000" of play each side. Being a bit of a perfectionist, I removed the spacers again and removed the last 1/1000" with water paper on a flat surface and now there is no play at all. Thanks to al...

Re: Front Wheel Bearing Play
So I repeated the measurement with the dial gauge probe on the grease cap as central as possible and there was a slight reduction in the measurement. The RHS play previously measured 9/1000" and now measured 7/1000". The LHS went from 13/1000" to 12/1000" . I got one of our toolm...

Re: Ignition coil wiring
Agree its down to the owners care. I was extremely lucky with my 57. It had one owner in Adelaide for 50 years before changing hands a few times and the body was in amazing condition with no structural rust and some very minor cosmetic rust which was easily repaired.

Ignition coil wiring
Can someone tell me which wire from the wiring diagram corresponds to positive and negative on the coil ? The wiring diagram has C.B and S.W ?
By the way my car is standard with positive earth.

Re: Wiper motor wiring
One last question on this topic, I seem to have misplaced one of the screws on the field coil terminal. I have tried to match it up at our local fastener supplier but they dont seem to have that thread. Anyone know what thread this is ? I could probably use a self tapping crew but I dont want to do ...

Wiper motor wiring
I recently refurbished my 57 wiper motor and I'm embarressed to say that I cannot remember where the red wire from the park sensor goes. Can someone help here please? I know it goes into the motor housing but no idea where it connects ?

Re: Front Wheel Bearing Play
Thanks for the replies. No I measured this play by pulling the hub outwards evenly and then pushing it back evenly with force applied to both sides , so I'm fairly confident its axial movement rather than rocking. What I might do tonight is repeat the measurement with the dial indicator located on t...
