Re: Parking light switch on cars in Western Australia
It was certainly the case in Victoria in the 50's.But the switch was for the tail light Nobody knew why, some said it was to prevent crooks switching off the tail light when being chased by police! Commonsense eventually prevailed and my MM which has been in the family since new in 1960 was never fi...

Re: Edd's 1098 engine rebuild.
I believe hardened valve seats are an unnecessary waste of money I have no scientific or mechanical basis for this assertion, merely my own observations. in the mid 80's the family 1960 1000 got a rebuild, which didn't include hardened seats,(leaded was then available) 18yo son armed with a brand ne...

Re: Door bottom seal location?
I also need the measurement, and does the channel follow the curve of the door bottom or run in a straight line? I was going to pop rivet rather than weld.can't see any reason why that won't work.Cheers John G

Thanks for that very clear and useful explanation which bears out what I was told by an ancient mechanic many years ago, that is if the thread is working in oil like a main bearing bolt lubricate it. If not, like a head stud or a wheel stud don't.

Re: Paint finish
The flatter the finish the better the depth and gloss. Its nothing to do providing a key. Yes its hard to bring yourself to sand your newly painted car but believe me its worth it. sand lightly Using 1200grit wet with a squirt of detergent in the water.leave it to harden for a couple of weeks Then bu...

Re: uprated brakes - front and rear.
The Wolseley 1500 didn't make it to Australia but BMC Australia produced down market versions called Morris Majors and Austin Lancers which used the Wolseley brakes. When I fitted these to the front of my 948 many years ago I was assured by many "experts" that fitting the rears was a waste...

Re: Temperature Gauge
The capilliary type can be fixed, but the last time I had it done it would have been cheaper to get a new one. I suggest you remove the battery before you feed your nice new tube through the bulkhead. Shorting them out on the battery does them no good at all. Don't ask how I know.....

Re: 240Z brake drum
Plenty of room inside the drum. and thanks for the suggestion. I guess I could pack out the cylinder mounting bolts, the shoes are a bit harder and I don't want to wreck the back plate as they have rocking horse poo status and I may want to return it to standard sometime. maybe a roundheaded bolt th...

240Z brake drum
Has anyone successfully fitted a Datsun 240Z rear drum to Wolseley/Major front brakes? For those unfamiliar with the Z car drum it is a very nice light finned alloy drum 9" x I.5". My initial experiments with a scrap drum reveal that the PCD needs to be changed, this is easy, but because i...
