Re: No MOT
Absolutely but there’s no harm in having a car inspected by a professional. Which also means that you could presumably just ask a garage to do the safety checks/structural checks without actually putting it through an MOT (though I suppose the hourly rate may be more than an MOT could cost these da...

Re: Ominous Engine Signs? (magnetic sump plug)
So, magnetise the Purolator collar and I guess you could collect all sorts of metal particles in the filter housing rather than keeping them in the engine :D even aluminium particles are attracted 'cos ali is paramagnetic, that is, it's weakly magnetic when in the magnetic field. I presume the large...

Re: Purolator - how tight?
So, ironically, after weighing up all the Pro's and Con's of the various heads that were for sale on eBay (at the time I was buying) and coming to the conclusion that one that had just been removed from a working engine and was in fully working condition (auction description) would be the best choic...

Re: Purolator - how tight?
I'd just like to confirm that this is definitely the correct order (and correct parts) before I go fitting everything: oil_housing_parts.png Since the old head looks in places like it had been previously painted black and mostly removed, I'd always thought this was a paint streak, shame I didn't ins...

Re: which carpet kit should I buy
In the '60s the footwell mat was also the BMC chocolate box, again I don't know if this or the toe pad firedrake1942 mentions would be period correct for a Series2 if that is a concern for you:

Re: Electric Fuel Pump SU v Hardi
They are completely wrong like alternators or negative earth! Weren't later models factory fitted with alternators making them right? (also if you want to have a towbar fitted as far as I'm aware the only option is negative earth due to current UK law (which includes backdating to older vehicles li...

Re: Better than nothing rust treatment?
I only have to walk for 7 minutes to get to my garage. My friends consider me 'ridiculously eccentric' for not having a 'modern' but I'm just not interested  So what does your vintage garage look like, and how is does it compare to the modern garage your friends want you to get? :D I think it...

Re: Electric Fuel Pump SU v Hardi
I couldn't say if it was the original, wouldn't surprise me though. So I could guess that the SU pump in my car worked for probably about 40 years before giving up. It was replaced with an SU pump, that was around about 20 years ago now. No known issues, so while that's of no use in the experiences ...

Re: which carpet kit should I buy
If you want it to look as close to the original as you can still get, then your only option is: https://newtoncomm.co.uk/collections/4-door/products/morris-minor-series-2-ii-carpet-set-1953-54-55-56-rhd-interior?variant=6822016417843 (the pile is about 1/3 as deep as the original hessian backed carv...

Re: Better than nothing rust treatment?
New engine rubber mounts tend to be made with harder rubber these days whilst the original ones are just right in that they support the engine yet are flexible enough to absorb vibrations and engine movement. When did you last check out new mounts? I'm just curious as I notice ESM list them as &quo...

Re: Better than nothing rust treatment?
Why do you need to take the engine out to paint round there (obv. I understand why you'd need to when fitting the rubbers)? I still have an engine in and earlier today I was standing with one foot inside the engine bay (being careful not to stand on the brake pipes). I mean you don't even have the i...

Re: Better than nothing rust treatment?
or it will flash rust (I have watched parts flash rust within 20 minutes). I was repainting a car, had to strip it to bare metal first. The job took longer and the daylight fled too quickly. In the end I had to leave it overnight, outside, near the coast. I spent the next morning sanding off the fl...

Re: Door alignment
It was always a dissapointment to me how the very bottom of my drivers door juts out slightly and isn't fully flush with the cars body as you'd expect. Recently I saw a period video showing a Minor with the exact same thing, so I guess some just look that way. I figured I'd mention this in case your...
