site

YES, It has become very slow to respond for me too. You click the 'back'
button and grow a beard waiting for something to happen. If you press a few more keys to gee it up it has actually left the site completely. I do not have this problem on any other sites.

hub nut

The hub nut on the front wheels should be tighted to 40 ft lbs. If that has been done and there is still play then the bearing dimensions are wrong
or,as suggested, the hub itself is outside specification.

Good result. the pinion nut should be tightened to a torque of 140 ft lbs.
I have never understood why it doesn't have a locking plate on it.

AA

When you join the AA you have the choice of covering 'the car' of 'the driver'. If you choose 'the driver' it doesn't matter whose car you are travelling in or how old it is, it will be covered. This means that all your vehicles (modern and classic) are covered by the one membership. Seemed like a g...

details

You could check for the chassis number which will usually be stamped
on the bulkhead, in the engine compartment, about one inch to the right
of where the bonnet opening rod protrudes. It will be the numbers only
not the prefixes.

The 'Helicoil' system works a treat but you need to find a workshop which
has the kit. It will be a simple job for them to insert a new thread.

It depends which model you have. If the trim is in two halves then it is a much more difficult job compared to the later one piece 'plastic chrome'

heard in the week they want to introduce registration plates and road tax for a bicycle! About time too (although I am not too sure about road tax)and that should include compulsory third party insurance. They should have an identifyable number and the means to pay for accidents which they cause. S...

pedal

If you remove the assembly to get at the bushes it is a good time to drill
a hole through the pedal and the new bush so that you can add oil easily.
EP90 (rear axle oil) will cling and lubricate in there for a very long time.

That number is probably used by the company which reconned the engine as a means of proving that they did it! The '02' could be the end of the 3 year guarantee???

questions

Tyre pressures: Cross ply= 22 front, 24 rear. Radials, 145X14" = 24 front and 26 rear and then find your own preference with use. Radial 155X14" around 26 front and 28 rear again adjust as you get to know the car. If the centre of the treads wears more rapidly than the outer edges then you...

broken shaft

When my half shaft snapped it was as smooth and silent as a knife through butter. The shafts normally snap close to the start of the splined section thus leaving the broken shaft itself free to be easily withdrawn. If the car is towed far with the broken shaft in situ then the rough broken end can g...

If you are unlucky enough to have the wrong combination of axle casing and diff carrier then you could indeed have no filler hole( later axles have the combined filler/level plug half way up the rearmost face of the rear axle). If you are without any filler hole then, yes, you could remove the plast...

The first question with running on is, is the tickover too fast?. If your timing has been adjusted as you say then the tickover speed may now be the culprit.
